ChaoDu:
Guiding Wandering Spirits Toward Liberation
"The practice of guiding spirits residing within the human body and all wandering spirits to ascend to higher realms, such as the human realm, heavenly realm, or the Western Pure Land, offering them peace and liberation."
Through the practice of ChaoDu, Amitabha Buddha’s boundless power enables the transcendence of wandering spirits. At the same time, having rediscovered her Buddha Nature, Lay Practitioner Su serves as a guiding force, leading the way with wisdom and compassion. Fellow practitioners take part with sincere devotion, expressing their compassionate will to assist, allowing the spirits to find peace and liberation in higher realms.
With ChaoDu, spirits may be guided toward:
-
The human realm, allowing them to take rebirth and continue their spiritual journey.
-
The heavenly realm, where beings experience joy and purity beyond the human world before continuing their cycle of reincarnation.
-
The Western Pure Land, where they attain true liberation and progress toward Buddhahood.

Countless wandering spirits exist throughout the universe.
These spirits may linger within human bodies, objects, or nature itself—residing in water droplets, forests, and mountains.
Their presence extends across unseen dimensions, from Earth to the vast reaches of the galaxy.

By assisting these lost spirits, practitioners bring harmony to both our world and spiritual worlds. Their compassionate work extends far beyond individual practice, influencing countless beings across different dimensions, ensuring their path to freedom and enlightenment.
The first spirit release —In short, to guide spiritual beings residing in our bodies to a better place— was carried out when the spirit of the late Master Hanshan appeared at the centre.
His compassionate presence highlighted the significance of helping troubled spirits find peace. He explained that challenges during practice, often caused by karmic creditors —spiritual beings to whom we owe debts from past lives, resulting in their interference in our current life where they reside in our body and cause uneasiness—physical or mental — are an unavoidable part of the spiritual journey. Furthermore, he emphasised that birth, aging, illness, and death are deeply intertwined with these unresolved karmic debts.
