The spirit has no fixed beginning or end. It moves through time and space, across galaxies, worlds, and the Ten Dharma Realms. Right now, it is turning within the six paths of rebirth in our world.
Sometimes, the spirit is born in the heavenly realm, enjoying peace, freedom, and light.
Sometimes, it enters the asura realm, blessed with beauty or strength, but easily caught in anger and conflict.
Sometimes, it wears a human body, living a life full of change, emotions, and learning.
Sometimes, it becomes a hungry ghost, wandering in darkness, filled with craving and sadness.
Sometimes, it takes the form of an animal—a cat, dog, cow, bird, fish, or other creature—living through instinct and survival.
Sometimes, it falls into the hell realm, suffering deeply from past harmful actions.
The spirit has also taken form as mountains and rivers, flowers and trees. It has been born through many ways—through a mother’s womb, through moisture, from eggs, or by sudden transformation. It has even lived on other planets, as beings beyond Earth.
No matter where the spirit has been, it has had relationships—parents, teachers, companions, and karmic ties. Every spirit has crossed paths with countless others. In truth, all beings are connected.
When we see this clearly, we begin to understand:
The spirit is the real “me.” The body is just a temporary shell.
If we purify our thoughts and actions, we can lift the spirit higher.
We stop being controlled by emotions, habits, and attachments.
We begin to see through illusion, and move toward awakening.
When the spirit is still clouded, it may carry pain or confusion. But through sincere practice, its true nature—its goodness and Buddha-nature—can shine through.
May we all help our spirit grow, and help others do the same.
May we awaken, see our true nature, and walk the path toward Buddhahood.
May we repay the kindness of Namo Amituofo, our teachers, and those who guide us.
