Teachings from Teacher-Practitioner Xia Lianju
Interview with Wu Wenjun (Internationally Renowned Mathematician and Founder of Mechanical Theorem Proving)
The World is an Illusion, Seeking Truth in Vain; Only Practitioner Su Has Found It
Ripples Remaining
Interview with Li Peng (Former Premier of the State Council of China)
In the Midst of the Suffering of the Saha World, Only Fragrant Light is a Ray of Hope
I am Teacher-Practitioner Xia Lianju. Today, in accordance with the needs of the current situation, and through the boundless of , I have been granted the grace to manifest and share this message. I currently reside among the holy assembly in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. However, I am also present here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia, working alongside Namo Amituofo to nurture this sacred ground. This place is a unique sanctuary in the human world. It is here that Namo Amituofo, myself, and Practitioner Su Yue-E—whom the world knows as Practitioner Su—have gathered with the shared hope that the seeds of the Pure Land may sprout, grow, and flourish.
In this Five Turbidities and Evil World, spreading the True Teachings is truly a difficult task. If not for the presence of Namo Amituofo in this world, it would be nearly impossible to reverse the current decline of the Pure Land path. I speak of a decline because those who successfully attain rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss are now so few. This is, of course, a characteristic of the Age of the Dharma’s Decline. Yet, since Practitioner Su has manifested in this world to save beings, how could we miss this golden opportunity to rescue the world? Practice is not easy. For Practitioner Su to have attained in this degenerate age is a monumental achievement.
I address these words to my grandson, Lay Practitioner Xia Fasheng. Fasheng, regardless of how I address you in this letter, or whether it matches the names we used when I was alive, the truth of this message remains unchanged. If you, Fasheng, allow the form of my address to stir doubt in your heart or cause you to question the authenticity of these words, then I must also question the depth of your own practice in this world. I planted the seeds of in your mind long ago, and you have a foundation in chanting the Buddha's name. Even after I passed away, you were able to shoulder the heavy burden of the Pure Land path. I am deeply comforted that after I left, you, along with Lay Practitioner Huang Nianzu, took up the responsibility of leading the Beijing Pure Land Society. I must address him as Lay Practitioner Huang Nianzu now, for in the eyes of the Buddha, all are equal, and we are all members of the holy assembly.
In the Age of the Dharma’s Decline, misleading teachers are as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River. It was precisely because I saw this reality that I established the Beijing Pure Land Society. Fortunately, through the compassion of the Buddha, this lineage has been preserved and continues to exist in the world today. This is no small feat. Think of the immense effort required to manage such an organisation, to propagate the Dharma, and to deliver lectures. Because I helped you establish a solid foundation in the Pure Land teachings during my lifetime, and because of your own subsequent efforts, you have earned the trust of many who now believe in the teachings you share.
I know you have been incredibly dedicated. The teachings you provide touch the hearts of many. You hope to save everyone from the suffering of this defiled world, to help them understand the magnificence of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and to help them realise the boundless compassion of Namo Amituofo’s Forty-eight Great Vows so that they may make the vow to be reborn there. During my time in the world, I wrote several works that are still in circulation. It is fortunate that after the meeting between Lay Practitioner Huang Nianzu and Venerable Master Chin Kung, the Infinite Life Sutra, which I compiled, was able to be circulated overseas and spread throughout the world via the Pure Land societies. This is a great for the Pure Land school, and the contributions of Venerable Master Chin Kung are truly indelible.
Today, Pure Land societies have been established in many places, including:
I was the one who chose the name for these societies. It was the Buddha’s compassion that allowed me to name them so that the Pure Land teachings could be spread to future generations across the globe. However, the transmission of the Dharma must continue from generation to generation. The propagation of the Pure Land path cannot be achieved by one or two individuals alone. It requires the concerted effort of many monastics, Dharma protectors, and lay practitioners working in harmony to carry this lineage forward. In the Western Pure Land, where all the superior beings gather, many holy ones look upon the suffering of the Saha world. Seeing sentient beings in pain, they manifest in the human world, vowing to save those with whom they have a karmic affinity, helping them leave suffering behind, establishing a connection with the Pure Land, or leading them back to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
In this regard, it is a great fortune that Practitioner Su has attained Awakening while in a human body and has taken up the Tathagata’s work of propagating the Dharma. To save people in this world, one must have tangible results. This means one must have true attainment in Pure Land practice, such that others can recognise it, or one must have attained the . If one can reach the goal of all practitioners—to realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood—that is even better.
Fasheng, I will not use obscure Buddhist terminology here. Such terms are sometimes necessary to gain the trust of the public or for writing books, but do true practitioners really need to rely on such esoteric, unique, or book-learned jargon to express the truth? I believe you know the answer. You do not need to guess or doubt; you must have the wisdom to discern the truth of this letter. I will speak plainly.
The origin of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is not unfamiliar to you. Several years ago, Practitioner Su brought some fellow practitioners from the Hsiang Kuang Chamber to visit you at the Beijing Pure Land Society. At that time, Practitioner Su was acting according to my wishes. I was already guarding this piece of Pure Land at the Hsiang Kuang Chamber, because the practitioners there, and Practitioner Su herself, have a very close connection with the Western Pure Land. People do not know this, but Namo Amituofo knows, I know, and the holy assembly of the West knows. In the spiritual realm, many things, if spoken aloud, might be dismissed as superstition. But for a practitioner who has attained Awakening through purification, these abilities are natural and not at all strange. The world may not understand, but I believe you, Fasheng, should be able to see and hear the truth.
Even if our first meeting left you with doubts and you did not receive the answers you sought, you should know that I was in the air, protecting everyone while they were at the society! Practitioner Su could see me; I was sitting just as I appear in my photographs, watching over the Beijing Pure Land Society and the city of Beijing. That is why the weather that day was exceptionally beautiful—a rare, sunny day in Beijing. It was not a coincidence. Cheng Yuan, who was there at the time, remarked, "The weather today is exceptionally good; it is so rare to have such a bright sun." She did not know that I was in the air, and that Namo Amituofo was emitting light, clearing away the gloom. Because of the Buddha’s light, and through Practitioner Su’s visualisation and , countless spirits in the dust were liberated and entered the Buddha’s light. After all these years, I tell you this, not fearing your disbelief. If everything had to be proven to you before it was considered true, how could Buddhas and Bodhisattvas manifest in this world? I must emphasise again: the world is full of suffering. Without extraordinary perseverance and skills that ordinary people do not possess, how could one possibly perform Chao Du for these suffering spirits? Everyone is suffering too much!
Fasheng, you are now over eighty years old. Whether your age is stated correctly or not, I am your grandfather, Teacher-Practitioner Xia Lianju. I see the suffering of people—the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death; the suffering of being unable to resist ; the suffering of the cycle of rebirth; and the suffering of being unable to reach the Western Pure Land. I believe you see and feel this too. You have a compassionate heart; I saw this when I was alive, which is why I guided you and taught you these things. You have not disappointed me.
Namo Amituofo has chosen the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre and truly abides here; this is not without reason. For Pure Land practitioners, chanting the Buddha's name is simple and convenient, making it very suitable for modern people. However, under the impact of modern technology, with the intrusion of computers and mobile phones, how many can truly practise honestly, chant the Buddha's name well, follow the Forty-eight Great Vows of Namo Amituofo, and cultivate according to the Infinite Life Sutra that I compiled? There are some, but how many have truly achieved success? How many have truly attained rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss?
Venerable Master Chin Kung propagated the Dharma for sixty years. Regardless of your opinion of him, or Cheng Yuan’s opinion, his work had merit. This must be acknowledged. At the very least, through his lectures, he helped people recognise Namo Amituofo and the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and he inspired many to make the vow to be reborn there. As for other matters and things unknown to the public, I will say no more.
I am here now to tell you that for the past thirty years, Practitioner Su has been listening to the teachings of Venerable Master Chin Kung. Especially in the first five years, she followed his instructions and attained Awakening. Later, she sought the Dharma from him, and although she eventually left, she remained in contact. After leaving, she continued to practise diligently, chanting the Buddha's name and helping to propagate the Dharma in Malaysia. Most magnificently, she met Venerable HaiZe, who had already become a monastic. Venerable HaiZe was able to receive the words of Namo Amituofo. Through the compassion of Namo Amituofo, Practitioner Su shared the teachings she had learned from Venerable Master Chin Kung. After hearing Practitioner Su’s lectures, Venerable HaiZe joined the programme, which allowed Practitioner Su to connect with Namo Amituofo and the Western Pure Land. At that time, I also manifested, and Venerable HaiZe was able to receive my messages. From then on, Namo Amituofo and I have provided teachings at the Hsiang Kuang Chamber, which we share and use to guide everyone.
We knew that Practitioner Su was a holy being who had descended from the West, manifesting in a human body to practise and attain Awakening. Furthermore, in past lives, Practitioner Su was an eminent monk who made great contributions to the Buddha’s teachings. I did not want to shock the world or cause you doubt, so I kept silent, but I can reveal this much: when Shakyamuni Buddha manifested in the world to attain Buddhahood, there was another Buddha who manifested in the world as a layperson. Today, that same Buddha is manifesting in the world as a layperson again. People do not know, but Namo Amituofo knows, and I know. That Buddha is currently at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. I remind you, Fasheng, do not take this lightly. You must show respect to Practitioner Su; this is my instruction to you.
Every person has past lives. Practitioner Su is a holy being who came by vow, and under the guidance of Namo Amituofo, she is moving forward on this Pure Land path, shining brightly. The fruit of Awakening is not easily attained. Only those with good roots from past lives, or those who are themselves Buddhas or Bodhisattvas who have vowed to descend to the world, can possibly attain it. Of course, some attain it in this lifetime. Among the monastics and lay practitioners at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, everyone has the opportunity to attain Awakening, but it requires great effort.
I have been guarding the Hsiang Kuang Chamber since that time—it has been about twelve years. Namo Amituofo has been here even longer. The Buddha’s teachings are recorded in the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre’s Modern Buddha Words series, and in the held three times a week. These teachings are extremely precious; you will not find another set like them in the world. This Dharma affinity is very rare. Practitioner Su knows how precious these words are, so she has compiled them. The current teachings of Namo Amituofo are titled Messages from Namo Amituofo’s Heart. Without the reception of these messages by the monastics at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre and the explanations provided by Practitioner Su, how could they be presented to the world? How could this precious guidance, which leads to Awakening and Buddhahood, be collected into volumes to teach future generations and open the Pure Land gate of Awakening? My own teachings have also been collected by Practitioner Su into a volume I titled The Collected Teachings of Xia Lianju. These volumes appear during the group cultivation at the temple, but the world does not know. Only at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, during the limited time of the ceremonies and Practitioner Su’s explanations, are they shared. Practitioner Su also speaks the Dharma diligently every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, even as she approaches eighty years of age. These are now being produced as video files, which can be viewed on the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre’s website.
You must cherish the words of those who have attained Awakening! If you follow the words of those who have attained Awakening, you can attain Awakening. If you follow the teachings of Namo Amituofo, you can attain Buddhahood. As for me, if you listen to the teachings of Teacher-Practitioner Xia Lianju and truly practise, you will at least attain the power of Buddha-recitation. Every propagator of the Dharma tries their best to pass on their attainments to future generations so that the lineage is not broken. But when saving beings in this world, if one does not have great strength, great courage, great wisdom, and great ability, how can one succeed? The spiritual realm is easier to save because the spirits are suffering so much. The human world is difficult to save, but we must try; we must save as many as we can.
Practitioner Su’s ability was not recognised by Venerable Master Chin Kung while he was alive, which is a great pity. Although I helped, and Namo Amituofo and many holy beings from the West were also blessing the situation, hoping that Venerable Master Chin Kung would recognise Practitioner Su’s ability to invite spirits, perform Chao Du, resolve conflicts, and receive messages from the Buddha and myself, he did not accept it. Because of this, I instructed Practitioner Su to go to the Beijing Pure Land Society to meet you, my grandson, hoping that the two of you could work together to propagate the Pure Land teachings. Unfortunately, the Dharma affinity was not sufficient, and after that one meeting, the connection was broken.
Today’s opportunity arises because of the passing of Venerable Master Chin Kung. People think he was reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, but in reality, that is not the case. Even if sarira were produced, there were both merits and faults. If the faults outweigh the merits, one must still face retribution. When Venerable Master Chin Kung was alive, he did not tell everyone that Namo Amituofo was at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre because he did not believe it and did not come to verify it. Furthermore, he excluded Practitioner Su from the Pure Land system, making her work of propagating the Dharma very difficult. For a lay practitioner to shoulder the transmission of the Pure Land path is truly arduous.
From the Hsiang Kuang Chamber to the present, because Namo Amituofo truly abides here, the name has been changed to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. The word "Grand" does not refer to the scale of the buildings, but to the fact that Namo Amituofo—the Universal Buddha—truly abides here. Spiritually, this is what makes it "Grand." Because of her filial piety toward Namo Amituofo and her awareness of the suffering of sentient beings, Practitioner Su uses visualisation Chao Du, Chao Du, and countless manifestations to liberate spirits, having already helped immeasurable beings be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Such ability can only be achieved by one who has attained Awakening and possesses a Dharma Body. Of course, Namo Amituofo also assists and blesses this work.
Practitioner Su has always wanted to tell everyone that Namo Amituofo is at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. The fastest way would have been through Venerable Master Chin Kung, but he did not accept it. Instead, after he passed away, he suffered retribution in the hells, and it was only through the rescue of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su that he was saved. Now, his spirit has been freed from the suffering of hell and sent to the of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. The spirit truly does not die; this is a powerful testimony. At the same time, Namo Amituofo is at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre and can help everyone be reborn in the Western Pure Land. Namo Amituofo is right here. Is it not the goal of daily Buddha-recitation, and the sincere thought at the moment of death, to seek Namo Amituofo so that He may hear the Buddha-name and lead us to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss? Now, the Buddha is right here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. For spirits, entering the Western Pure Land is easy; as long as they chant the Buddha's name, Namo Amituofo’s light shines everywhere, and they can enter. Where else can you find such a thing in this Age of the Dharma’s Decline? You must tell everyone quickly, let them come here to see the Buddha, and let them chant the Buddha's name to be reborn in the West. Practitioner Su hopes that everyone knows this, and even more, that Namo Amituofo is brought to the forefront to save everyone.
The beings in the spiritual realm already know this. Every Thrice Yearning Ceremony is filled with spirits coming here to seek the Buddha’s guidance to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss! This includes celestial beings from the twenty-eight heavens, the holy assembly of the Four Sacred Realms, many immortals and deities of the Dharma realm of emptiness, and spirits from planets in the Milky Way. These are all beings liberated by Practitioner Su’s Dharma Body Chao Du, visualisation Chao Du, and countless manifestations. They all know that the Buddha-name is inconceivable and that the energy of the Buddha-light can save their planets. Both the Buddha-name and the Buddha-light can help them go to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
In the spiritual realm, Practitioner Su has already liberated immeasurable beings, but in the human world, it is truly a pity that few people know or believe this! She repeatedly calls on everyone to come to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre to see the Buddha and seek the Dharma. Why? Because with her experience as one who has attained Awakening, she can help others attain Awakening, with the assistance of Namo Amituofo. Of course, I also lend a helping hand. If everyone could know about this place, rebirth would be within reach! Learning Buddhism, chanting the Buddha's name, attaining Buddhahood, and being reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss are not limited by nationality, region, race, or language. Everyone’s spirit is connected; the Dharma-nature, Buddha-nature, and true self are all connected. All Buddhas walk the same path, do they not? So, taking this opportunity, I tell you, Fasheng, this place is worth visiting. It is worth promoting so that everyone knows to come here to seek the Dharma. I am also here, waiting for you, waiting for everyone.
Fasheng! You are advanced in years in this lifetime. I ask you, do you want to grasp the opportunity to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss in this life? You can think about it in your heart. Perhaps you think: "I have chanted the Buddha's name for so many years, I have a foundation in my practice, and I have propagated the Dharma for decades; surely I can reach the West?" If you are so confident, that is excellent. I praise you for it, and your life has not been in vain! With the guidance I gave you before, and your own contributions in this world, I hope you can reach the place where all superior beings gather, and I believe the compassionate Namo Amituofo will lead you to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
If possible, come here for a visit. See for yourself, and you will know if what I say is true. You can also go online first to look at the many interviews from the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Let me tell you in advance: these interviews are unique; you will not find the same information anywhere else, because they can only be obtained here. This includes interviews with beings from the Demon Realm, interviews with the patriarchs and venerable masters of the West, and even the demon crowds that caused the pandemic that terrified the whole world! There are too many to count! Some who saw this believed and knew that Namo Amituofo is at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. They were overjoyed and wanted to come to seek the Dharma, but one must have sufficient Dharma affinity to enter. Fasheng, I hope you are one of those with sufficient Dharma affinity to come here once. This is the second time I have spoken since our last meeting; it is time for you to come out.
Do you know that Practitioner Su has a very good impression of you? During that meeting in Beijing, she praised you highly. At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the Thrice Yearning Ceremony is held three days a week—Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In every ceremony, Practitioner Su invites the thirteen generations of Pure Land patriarchs and many other patriarchs and venerable masters. These are all patriarchs and venerable masters who have come to the Hsiang Kuang Chamber to request Chao Du, including the First Patriarch of Huayan, Venerable Dushun; the Third Patriarch, National Master Xianshou; the Fourth Patriarch, Great Master Qingliang; and many others you are familiar with. Practitioner Su also invites the ancestors, teachers, and of Xia Fasheng through the ages to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre to participate in the Thrice Yearning Ceremony led by Namo Amituofo. This is to perform Chao Du for your ancestors, teachers, and karmic creditors. Since that meeting in Beijing, I do not know how many ceremonies have been held, and every single time, your ancestors, teachers, and karmic creditors have been invited. Many of the spiritual attachments on your body, beings with whom you have a karmic affinity from past lives, and karmic creditors have learned that Namo Amituofo is here and can lead them to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. They have all come here and have already been liberated; I can see it clearly. If they were not invited, beings would have to go through the Dharma protectors like Skanda and Sangharama Bodhisattva to enter this place to seek Chao Du.
I see the truth clearly and tell you these things, hoping that this letter reaches your eyes and that Cheng Yuan can also see it. I believe she is also a person of understanding and knows Venerable Master Chin Kung; these are all Dharma affinities. Everyone should let go of the past. It is all in the past; live in the present. The present is what matters most. Sentient beings are suffering greatly and need everyone to cooperate, work together, and share resources to help those with Pure Land affinity and those with karmic affinity leave suffering behind in this life, find reliance for their hearts, and fulfil their wish to be reborn in the West.
Practitioner Su has even vowed to build the Pure Land School Headquarters at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, where Namo Amituofo truly abides. This name was chosen by Namo Amituofo, with the hope of gathering the strength of the Pure Land, regardless of nationality or region, so that everyone can work together to help sentient beings leave suffering behind and be reborn in the West. This requires gathering everyone’s strength. Contributing money and effort is one thing, but the most important thing is to spread the word so that everyone knows. Practitioner Su has managed the temple for many years, never relaxing for a single second, because Namo Amituofo is here, and she fears that if Namo Amituofo were to leave, who would save the suffering of the people in this world?
Fasheng, you should be very clear about my meaning. I also hope that you will do your part to spread this news so that everyone knows. This is to save everyone, and it is also to save yourself.
If you wish to contact this place, it is not difficult. The website has the contact information, which is very clear. You can check with Practitioner Cheng, or I will include the contact information at the end of this letter.
This letter is "A Letter from Teacher-Practitioner Xia Lianju to Lay Practitioner Xia Fasheng." Here, I must also respectfully address you as Lay Practitioner Xia Fasheng, and I praise your indelible contributions to propagating the Pure Land teachings in this world. You have also made good use of the resources I left behind, which is excellent! I also hope that these resources can be shared with the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre so that both sides can exchange and learn from each other. I am there!
Well, I have said all I need to say.
