This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Peng Nianying, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition and her message to her living descendants. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on July 21, 2023.
Lay Practitioner Peng Nianying speaks:
". My dear descendants, I have arrived in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
If I had not experienced this journey myself, I truly would not have dared to believe that such a magnificent place actually exists. My heart is now incredibly peaceful, filled with a serenity I never knew in the human world.
I received all the care and filial piety you showed me during my final days. Every human being must eventually walk this path of death; it is the inevitable destination for us all.
In the beginning, I could not let go of . I was so attached to this family, so desperate to keep watching over you. But death is final—once you have passed, there is simply no way to intervene in the lives of the living, no matter how much you wish to. For the longest time, I clung tightly to this home and to all of you whom I held so dear. Thankfully, my grandson Haibing helped me by arranging for Chao Du. I am deeply grateful to this filial grandson; through his efforts, he allowed my spirit to enter the radiant, sacred space of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. In that space, I finally became clear-headed. I saw clearly that all the joys and sorrows of the human world are merely illusions. The only thing that truly remains is one's own heart. Whether that heart harbours Goodness or evil, whether one has performed good deeds or created —the laws of karma and cause and effect are etched into the soul with absolute clarity.
It is precisely because of this realisation that I have some words I must share with my daughter and son-in-law. This is also the heartfelt wish of Haibing. I implore you to resolve to adopt a vegetarian diet. Please, do not continue to harm other beings simply to satisfy your own cravings. I have seen it with my own eyes: every piece of meat you consume carries the spirits of those slaughtered animals. They follow you, clinging to your physical bodies, waiting for the perfect moment to seek revenge.
Looking back now, I recall several people we knew who suffered greatly because they were being haunted by the spirits of the animals they had consumed. In the end, they were so burdened by this that they could not even walk. I do not want you to reach such a tragic state, and I certainly do not want you to pay the heavy price for harming other beings. You must listen to your mother's words—this is absolutely not a joke. We have already created too much karma in our past lives; it is already difficult enough to find the time to repent, let alone continuing to create even more. How will you ever repay such heavy karmic debts?
This time, the Buddha has saved me, allowing me to reach this beautiful Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I hope that you, my descendants, will also have the Causal Conditions to attain this. At the very least, I urge you to chant 'Namo Amituofo' with sincerity.
The suffering of the cycle of rebirth is beyond anything you can imagine. You are forced to change into all sorts of forms according to the laws of karma and cause and effect. I do not want to see you suffer like that. I truly hope that you will find the Causal Conditions to devote your hearts entirely to the Buddha.
I also wish to express my deepest gratitude to Practitioner Su and the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre for their boundless .
Kneeling in gratitude, Peng Nianying."
