This is a record of an interview with the spirit of Lay Practitioner Huang Guohui, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his life and his journey toward liberation. It was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on June 2, 2023.
Lay Practitioner Huang Guohui speaks:
"Miaoqian, I want to say thank you. Thank you for remembering the Causal Conditions we once shared. Even though our time together has long since passed, you were still willing to perform Chao Du for me, allowing me to be reborn into a new life. I truly do not know how to express my gratitude for such a profound kindness. I also want to take this moment to sincerely apologise for the times I hurt you in the past.
Throughout my life, I chased after so many things. Whether I succeeded in obtaining them or not, they are all gone now. I used to have such a volatile temperament, and I held onto things so tightly. It was only after I passed away and arrived at this Buddha-land that I realised how laughable my earthly pursuits truly were. It was only after listening to the teachings here that I began to understand. The Buddha’s teachings have brought me an entirely different perspective on life. Only after I began to contemplate these truths with a sincere heart did I finally grasp the principles that had eluded me for so long. Moving from a state of intense attachment to a place of willingness to let go—that was not an easy process. I am deeply grateful to you, for it is only through your help that I have been able to come to these realisations.
I have been watching over you here. I can see that your mind is filled with many afflictions and that you are constantly overthinking. But honestly, no matter how much you worry, many of these things simply cannot be solved by thinking alone. You are already learning the Buddha’s teachings, so please, stop thinking that you must rely on others. No one is truly reliable in this world. You must focus on your own practice, rely on the Buddha, and only then will you be able to find true peace of mind.
Only now do I understand how rare and precious the opportunity to learn the Buddha’s teachings truly is. You must be more diligent. Listen to the sutras more often so that you can truly internalise these principles and unlock the knots in your heart.
Regarding our daughter, I see how worried you are, and for that, I am truly sorry. However, if you can genuinely change your ways and walk the path of the Buddha with sincerity, I can see that there is still a possibility for our daughter to change for the better as well.
Having walked through this life, I have endured my fair share of suffering; I hope you can learn to let go and see things with a broader perspective. I hope you do not mind me saying these things to you, but they come from a place of sincere gratitude.
I have already reached the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. If the Causal Conditions arise, please let those who knew me or my family know of this. If the conditions are not there, then let it be, and follow the flow of nature.
Thank you for everything.
Huang Guohui"
