A Final Journey to the Western Pure Land

This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Lai O-You, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He passed away on July 1, 2022, and now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This testimony was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fa, on February 26, 2026.

Lay Practitioner Lai O-You speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Lai O-You. I am filled with such immense joy to be here today, having successfully attained rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This place is truly a realm of absolute peace and harmony. If you ever have the chance, you must come and see this for yourselves—it is such a pure, magnificent, and tranquil Pure Land.

My karmic connection with the world of suffering has finally reached its perfect conclusion at this very moment. Having wandered through the cycle of reincarnation for countless lifetimes, I am now completely content. I am profoundly grateful to Practitioner Su for guiding me to the Western Land, sparing me from further suffering.

Reflecting on a Lifetime of Wandering

During my time at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia, I learned so many profound truths about life. After my mind became clear, I took the time to carefully review my entire life. I even saw glimpses of my past lives—about ten of them, in fact—but I could not bear to look any further. Life is truly filled with such immense suffering. So much of it was driven by emotion and insatiable desires, which kept me trapped in a state of confusion. All the pain I experienced throughout my many lives was a direct result of my own obsession and attachment.

A Message to My Family

My dear children, your father is now going to study the Buddha’s teachings with Namo Amituofo. I am doing very well, so please do not worry about me. You must live your own lives well and make the most of your time in this world. I truly hope that you will all commit yourselves to studying the Buddha’s teachings. Here, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, there is genuine Buddhist education. Come here to learn, to transform your lives, and do not end up leaving this world in the same exhausted and painful way that I did.

The Truth of Impermanence

In this life, everything we accumulate must eventually be returned. We come into this world with nothing, and when we kick our legs and depart, we leave with nothing. What can we truly call our own? No one can face death for you. This is a path that every single person must walk alone. You must prepare early so that when the time comes, you will not be filled with fear.

We were fortunate enough to be a family in this lifetime—my beloved wife, my children—I wish for all of you to be well. I have already walked this path ahead of you, and I will be waiting for you in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. You must come to join me.

I must express my deepest gratitude to Practitioner Su and every single one of the hardworking Venerables. Thank you for your tireless dedication and management of the Centre, which provided me with the precious opportunity to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Once again, I am filled with gratitude. Namo Amituofo."
