Practising Goodness
In the sacred environment of the monastic community, we must recognise that our collective life is built upon shared norms and a disciplined daily schedule. These structures are not merely rules; they are the foundation that supports our spiritual growth and ensures that we remain on the right path. It is the duty of every practitioner to honour these guidelines, as they provide the stability necessary for our collective practice to flourish.
If you encounter issues that affect the community, you must bring them forward for discussion rather than attempting to resolve them in isolation. Acting on your own, or worse, violating the , creates discord that disrupts the group's schedule and hinders the diligent practice of everyone involved. We must remember that we are part of a greater whole, and our actions have a ripple effect on the entire community.
When changes are necessary, they must be achieved through unified coordination. It is vital that we do not allow the preferences of an individual or a small group to compromise the integrity of the monastic community's daily routine. True harmony is found when we align our intentions with the collective goal of the community, ensuring that our path remains steady and focused.
This coordination is not just an external requirement; it is a reflection of our internal state. When the Body-Mind-Spirit of a practitioner is unified and coordinated, the results are profound: becomes healthy, the heart becomes pure, and the spirit finds true peace. This is the ultimate goal of our practice, and it is entirely attainable if you are willing to listen and follow the guidance provided.
If you fail to achieve this alignment, the consequences are felt deeply. You may experience physical illness, a clouded heart, and a restless spirit. When we are out of balance, our three hun souls and seven po souls are not complete, making it difficult to focus while listening to the sutras or to respond clearly to the teachings. This state of fragmentation makes it nearly impossible to solidify our understanding of the Truth.
Therefore, you must engage in sincere repenting. You must be truly earnest in your desire to change your ways and commit yourself to listen to the teachings. This is the only way to restore the integrity of your Body-Mind-Spirit.
To transform your current situation, you must cultivate goodness in every aspect of your life. This means that you must:
By ensuring that you think well, speak well, and do well, you create the necessary conditions for a genuine transformation. Only through this consistent application of goodness can you hope to achieve the unified coordination of your Body-Mind-Spirit and make meaningful progress on your path. Let us always remember to keep our focus on the ultimate goal, chanting with a sincere and dedicated heart.
