Selfishness is Suffering
If you truly understand the necessity of letting go, then you must act upon it. By doing so, you will suffer less, and your heart will become clear. You know in your heart that you must let go, yet you find yourself unable to do so. Why is this? It is because you are entangled in a cycle of suffering, and your has taken control of your life.
When karma takes the lead, it is often your who are in control. If you fail to transform your karma, the bitter fruits of your past actions will continue to manifest. You came into this world with nothing, yet your mind is filled with endless thoughts and intentions. These thoughts attract countless beings with whom you share a karmic affinity. Through the complex interplay of the cause and effect (Karma) of good and evil, you create a web of consequences that binds you to this world.
You must repent for your past mistakes. You must change your ways regarding your character and your latent habits or bad character traits. Consider the following steps to purify your practice:
If you do not let go, you will continue to be trapped by the desire to stop suffering, which ironically only makes the suffering harder to end.
You must let go of your self-centred thoughts and views. This includes your ego-attachment, your sense of possession, and your personal demands. As long as there is an 'I' that clings to these things, your karmic creditors can remain in control. Whenever you experience a thought or a ripple of emotion, you are in the process of creating karma through your body, speech, and mind.
Everything you grasp is subject to impermanence. Within this state of impermanence, are the master. Everything arises and ceases due to these conditions; nothing in this world is truly real. Only is the constant that you should never leave behind.
Your spirit is that which never arises and never ceases. You must strive to seek your true self. Elevate your spirits and see their true nature. Only by seeing your true nature can you find what is real. The spirit of your true self is your authentic identity, and only then can you truly be the master of your own life.
