Understanding Namo Amituofo and the Forty-eight Great Vows
During the , we reflect on the profound teachings of the ancestors. On 14 June 2020, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered essential guidance on the art of following Causal Conditions. To follow Causal Conditions is not to be aimless, nor is it to lack a sense of purpose. On the contrary, it is to possess a clear and profound understanding of the nature of reality.
Many people mistake this practice for being passive, lazy, or indifferent. This is a misunderstanding. To follow Causal Conditions is to see through the illusions of the material world. It is a state of clarity where one understands the underlying truth of every situation.
One must remain active and diligent in their practice. However, regardless of the outcome of your efforts, you must be able to pick up your responsibilities and put down your attachments. This is the balance of a true practitioner. You engage fully with the world, yet you remain unburdened by the results of your actions.
Do not be fooled by outward appearances. One might appear calm or avoid conflict, yet their mind may remain filled with constant, restless thoughts and attachments. True following is a matter of mental cultivation. It is an internal work that happens within the heart. Even when external conditions shift and turn, the practitioner remains unmoved by the changing environment.
This flexibility, combined with deep meditative concentration, is the mark of great cultivation. When you follow Causal Conditions without grasping, without craving, and without desire, you attain true freedom. This is the path to finding coolness and peace in the heart. By letting go of the need to control, you find the stillness that is always present within your true nature.
