During the and the Noon Offering, we reflect upon the nature of existence. Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offers us a profound teaching on the concept of flow, reminding us that life is not a static state, but a continuous, dynamic process.
Consider the various forms of movement that sustain our world:
Flow represents a state of being, a constant movement rather than a state of stillness. When we observe the natural environment, we see that balance is the key to life. Both excess and deficiency in these flows can lead to significant problems and harm to living beings. Stability and moderation are essential to maintain the natural order, allowing the lives of countless earthly creatures to continue and flourish.
Our relationship with the earthly creatures and the environment is one of deep, interconnected significance. We must learn to respect one another, for it is through this mutual respect that a harmonious state can be manifested. Even if a person believes they can isolate themselves from the outside world to live in solitude, they must still coexist with the natural environment. Therefore, respecting the myriad spirits and life forms of the earth is an absolute necessity. Maintaining a stable state within oneself is equally vital for this harmony.
This state of flow is not merely an external phenomenon; it exists within our own bodies. The human body is, in essence, a flowing magnetic field, constantly operating in a state of movement. We can understand our internal systems through these natural metaphors:
It is of the utmost importance that the body can autonomously maintain these functional flows without interference. We must ensure that these channels do not become blocked, as blockages make it difficult for the body to function correctly.
For every part of the body, it is essential to maintain a harmonious, interactive relationship with these internal flows. When each part of the body works in concert with these natural movements, it allows the body to perform at its highest quality. This process generates healthy, natural energy, which is a crucial method for preventing premature ageing and illness. By honouring the flow within, we align ourselves with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, ensuring that our body, mind, and spirit remain in a state of purity and balance. Let us cherish this understanding and apply it to our daily practice as we seek to leave suffering behind and find true happiness.
