You must learn to maintain a sense of detachment regarding the people, events, and scenery of your past. Why is this necessary? Because all these experiences are merely the unfolding of —the settling of debts, the repayment of kindness, and the resolution of grievances that have accumulated over countless lifetimes. When you view these past encounters with detachment, you stop being a prisoner to the emotional turbulence they once caused.
You must also learn to be detached from the hardships and encounters of your current life. Everything you experience is part of a greater process, a journey that has led you to this moment where you can enter the temple where truly abides: the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. If there were no causes planted in the past, there would be no fruit of arriving at this sacred place today.
Regardless of how the process unfolds—amidst the and anger, the sorrow and happiness, the reunions and the partings—you must remain grateful. Be thankful for every person and every situation you encounter, for they are all helping you move closer to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Do not let the fleeting nature of these events distract you from your ultimate goal.
Furthermore, you must be detached from the version of yourself that you have known throughout your many lives. Everything exists within the cycle of cause and effect. What has passed will never return, yet it has left behind layer upon layer of karmic debt within your . This storehouse of records every thought, word, and action, waiting for the right conditions to manifest as future results.
If you can engage in fierce, diligent practice to see your true nature and attain Buddhahood, you will be able to transform the Alaya consciousness into the Great Mirror Wisdom. In this state, all consciousness is transformed into Wisdom. The karmic connections stored in your past are then dissolved and transformed through the light of the Buddha’s Wisdom.
At this stage, your life is no longer governed by karmic consciousness. Instead, it is governed by the Wisdom of the Buddha. You will follow the path of those who have realised their true nature, where the secondary rewards of your environment follow the transformation of your primary reward—your own awakened mind. When you, as an awakened being, take charge of your true self, you are no longer controlled by karma, no longer entangled by karmic forces, and no longer held captive by . You are free to live a life of coolness, ease, and liberation.
This is the state of a being who has diligently practised to transform their karma. It is like transforming the emotional entanglements within your karma into affinity, thereby giving those you encounter the opportunity to transform their own karma as well. This is the fruit of detachment from the world. It is the path of the Buddha or in this world—a path of and Wisdom, working in unison to save the world and liberate all beings.
