The Turning Point: Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju

The Rugged Path of Practice

The mountain path of life is often rugged and steep. You may ask yourself, who is walking beside you as you climb over these many dangerous peaks? When you encounter obstacles, the path may seem to turn, yet it reveals a new way forward. Even when you reach what appears to be a dead end, do not despair. If you turn your head, you will see the path of light. Throughout this entire journey, the Buddha and your teacher are walking beside you.

Practitioner Su is also advancing along this path with you. Why then should you worry about not seeing your true self? The Dharma Body exists to save all beings, but you, as a disciple, must take responsibility for overcoming the limitations of your physical body. No matter where you are, let your heart always follow Namo Amituofo. Ultimately, we shall meet again in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Facing the Worldly Tests

Whether you are living in the world or focusing on your practice, the journey is filled with layers of tests. In the world, you are constantly tested by the Five Desires and the Six Dusts. You must ask yourself if you can withstand the temptations of:

• Wealth: The desire for material possessions and financial security.
• Lust: The craving for sensory pleasure and physical intimacy.
• Fame: The pursuit of reputation, status, and recognition.
• Food: The attachment to taste and the indulgence of the palate.
• Sleep: The desire for comfort and the avoidance of diligent effort.

Beyond these worldly tests, your practice is also challenged by the limitations of your physical body, the weight of your karma, and the entanglements of your emotions. To progress, you must learn to "see through" and "let go" of all past attachments.

The Power of the Vow

As long as your vow remains unchanged and your strength of purpose is continuous, you will find your way. Even when you encounter various barriers or obstacles, there will always be a turning point where you can break through these difficulties. By doing so, you will find your true self, achieve liberation from the cycle of rebirth, and eventually return to the seat of Namo Amituofo in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
