Understanding Namo Amituofo and the Forty-eight Great Vows
During the profound gathering of the , we are blessed with the guidance of Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju. As we reflect on the nature of our practice, we must ask ourselves how we can truly listen to the Buddha and integrate His wisdom into our daily lives.
Where may one truly hear the words of the Buddha? The of the Buddha is not confined to any single place or time; it permeates the entire Realm. Because the Buddha’s compassion is everywhere, the words of the Buddha are also present throughout the entire Dharma Realm. Wherever the Buddha acts, the words of the Buddha are present. We must learn to quiet our minds so that we may perceive this constant, silent teaching that surrounds us at every moment.
Who is qualified to speak the words of the Buddha? Those who act as messengers of the Dharma must embody the qualities that align with the Buddha’s own state of being:
When you listen to the Buddha teaching the Dharma, you begin to understand the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, as well as the true reality of existence. This is because the Buddha is, in essence, the embodiment of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Those who expound the Truth do not deviate from the righteous path; they act according to the True Teachings and follow the Buddha’s instructions in every action. By doing so, they are able to become like the Buddha, realising the true reality and rediscovering the Buddha nature within you.
Listening to the Buddha means listening to words of pure goodness and purity. It is the language of great compassion and supreme wisdom, encompassing the infinite and boundless capacity of the heart. When you listen to the words of , you are invited to transform your entire existence:
This is the ultimate goal of our practice: to leave behind the cycle of rebirth and return to our original home in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. May you cherish these teachings and let them guide you on your journey toward .
