Understanding Namo Amituofo and the Forty-eight Great Vows
During the third session of the held on 11 April 2021, we received profound guidance from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju. He taught us that the practice of thinking for others is not merely a social virtue; it is a fundamental pillar of our spiritual journey. When you genuinely consider the needs and of others, you are the one who benefits the most. This shift in perspective is a major direction for your practice and serves as a key reason for success on the path to liberation.
When you think for others, you move beyond the petty concerns of comparison, gain, loss, and personal interest. Your heart becomes simple and focused. This state of mind naturally integrates and tolerance, allowing your mind-capacity to expand infinitely. By letting go of the small self, you create the space necessary for wisdom to flourish.
Conversely, if you are filled with the heavy weight of the ego—your feelings, your , your actions, and your desires—you will always be selective. You will harbour private agendas that cloud your judgement. When a situation conflicts with your personal interests, you will inevitably put yourself first. In such a state, it is impossible to truly understand or practise the art of thinking for others, as the ego acts as a barrier to genuine connection.
To truly think for others, one must be unconditional, selfless, and devoid of the ego. It is a state of being where your heart is entirely dedicated to the welfare of all beings. This is the union of pure goodness and pure clarity, and it is an essential condition for becoming an awakened being. By cultivating this selfless heart, you align yourself with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, ensuring that your practice leads you toward the of Ultimate Bliss.
