If your attitude and faith are truly firm, you will remain unmoved and unchanged, continuing straight along the path regardless of the nature of the challenge. You must be able to endure and pass these trials, which come in various forms:

• Tests from demons: These are the external distractions and obstacles that seek to pull you away from your practice.
• Tests from the Buddha: These are the subtle opportunities that arise to verify the depth of your sincerity and the purity of your vows.
• Tests from sentient beings: These are the interactions with others, including karmic creditors, that challenge your patience and compassion.

To be firm is to understand your ultimate goal clearly. Once you have set your sights on the Western Pure Land, you must never abandon that purpose. Even if your circumstances change or your path takes an unexpected turn, you must continue to move directly toward your goal without hesitation.

The Path to Awakening

Realising one's true nature and attaining Buddhahood is not something that can be achieved in a single, fleeting moment, yet it is not an unreachable, distant dream.
