I offer this counseling to all disciples of the Buddha. To progress on your spiritual journey, you must learn to let go of your personal views and emotional attachments. Often, we are so blinded by our own perspectives that we fail to see the truth. Open your heart to listen to the perspectives of others and accept the constructive feedback they offer. By doing so, you will discover new insights and gain profound benefits that you would otherwise miss. When you are willing to set aside your ego, you create space for wisdom to enter.
When you have shortcomings or areas where you are lacking, and others point them out to you, you must be especially attentive. This is particularly vital when these words come from your teachers or true spiritual friends. Every word they speak acts as a compass, guiding you back to the right path. You must receive their teachings with humility and resolve to change your ways. If you react with anger, harsh expressions, or sharp words, you are planting negative causes for future suffering. You must quickly turn back to the right path, offer an apology, and engage in sincere repenting. Do not continue to cling to your own ideas or insist on your own opinions, for this only harms both yourself and others.
Within the monastic community and the bodhimanda, we must uphold shared guidelines. These rules exist to prevent us from committing errors or creating negative . They help us restrain improper speech, conduct, and behaviour. By adhering to these standards, we reveal our good roots and nurture our inner virtue. This discipline is not a burden but a protection, ensuring that our practice remains pure and focused on the ultimate goal of liberation.
I counsel all of you: the Dharma affinity at the Fragrant Light is truly magnificent and rare. It is not something one encounters easily in this world. You must engage in diligent practice, listen to the Dharma, receive these teachings, and work to rediscover your true self. Only by doing so can you resolve the suffering of all beings and return to the of Ultimate Bliss. Cherish this opportunity, for it is the key to leaving suffering behind and finding true happiness.
