Whether a practitioner advances, regresses, or remains caught in the middle is a clear reflection of their internal discipline. It is the direct result of their personal vows and their daily actions.
As you engage in your daily practice—prostrations, walking meditation, and reciting the Sutras—you should observe your progress over time. True advancement is marked by several clear signs:
However, if your drowsiness continues unabated, or if it even begins to worsen, this is a sign of regression. If you find that you are exactly where you were before, neither better nor worse, then you are caught in the middle.
While you are here in this precious Buddha-land, you must engage in diligent practice. You should strive to advance without retreating, for this is how you will eventually see their true nature. If you find yourself stuck, you must seek a breakthrough to move forward. If you find that you are regressing, you must be vigilant!
To avoid the suffering of karma, the pains of Aging, sickness, and death, you must break through these barriers. You must continue to advance, and then break through again. Only through this persistent effort can you transform your karma. By doing so, you will no longer be bound by the heavy weight of karma, nor will you be trapped in the cycle of being reincarnated. This is how you secure your opportunity for rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss.
