Bearing the Suffering of All Beings at All Times, Thus Inviting the Presence of Amitabha Buddha
During the and the Noon Offering, we reflect upon the nature of our existence and the burdens we carry. Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju provides these essential teachings on the concept of hurt and how we might transcend it.
Hurt of the heart and body is fundamentally rooted in the laws of and cause and effect. If there were no beginning to our cycle of existence, there would be no hurt to experience. However, once a beginning is made, a scar remains. These experiences enter our and eventually manifest as that we must endure. Whether the hurt arises from within our own hearts or is inflicted by others, we must understand that it is a manifestation of past causes.
You must never engage in the act of hurting others, nor should you allow yourself to be trapped in the cycle of self-inflicted pain. If you realise that harm has already been caused, you must take immediate steps to soothe the wound and ensure that no further harm occurs. Often, when we experience deep hurt, it is because our have come to be the master of our lives. While others may have the power to hurt us, we must resolve that we will not hurt others in return. By maintaining a heart free of shame and walking the path of the Truth, we can begin to untangle these complex karmic knots.
If your heart is firm and steady like a mountain, no matter how the external environment changes, it cannot hurt your heart in the slightest. This is the true strength of a practitioner. When you reach the state of an awakened being, you possess no mind of attachment, no perception of suffering, and therefore, you are beyond the reach of hurt. This is the supreme remedy for protecting your heart and body, allowing you to remain peaceful amidst the storms of samsara.
