is the heart's natural response to the suffering of others. When one truly witnesses the pain of sentient beings, a profound desire arises within the heart to help them leave suffering behind and find true happiness. This is the very foundation of the path to .
Namo Amituofo embodies this great compassion in its most perfect form. Seeing the endless suffering of beings trapped in the cycle of rebirth, Namo Amituofo spent five kalpas of time establishing the of Ultimate Bliss. This was done specifically to provide a sanctuary where beings could be reborn while still carrying their . This is a grace of unimaginable magnitude, a gift that allows even those deeply mired in the and the heavy karma of the six realms to find a way out. It is for this reason that all the Buddhas in the ten directions praise the infinite compassion of Namo Amituofo.
True compassion is not passive; it is a powerful vow. It is the determination to save oneself, to reach the state of an awakened being, and to extend that same salvation to all sentient beings. When you cultivate this compassion, you are not just seeking your own liberation; you are aligning your heart with the vast, all-encompassing vow of the Buddhas. This is the path that leads to the true transformation of the spirit.
Compassion also requires you to be diligent in your practice. You must actively face and overcome the obstacles that hinder your progress, such as the state of being drowsy or falling into the illusions of other spaces. You must learn to protect your spirit, ensuring that it remains undisturbed by the influence of other spirits. If your mind is clouded by or if you allow your spirit to become entangled in the distractions of other spaces, you lose the purity of your original nature. How, then, can you speak of elevating the quality of your spirit or reaching the state of an awakened being?
Compassion demands that you remain steadfast when facing the various tests that arise during your practice. At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, you are fortunate to have the guidance of Namo Amituofo, the teachers, and Practitioner Su, who are always available to help you resolve your doubts. Once you have asked your questions, you must be diligent in changing your ways. By correcting your mistakes, you will find that your confusion clears and your spiritual achievements grow.
You must strive to perform your duties to the best of your ability, serving the community without calculation or selfishness. Practise the virtue of . When you see the suffering of others, work to alleviate it. By diligently practising to become an awakened being, you save yourself and help others leave suffering behind to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is the true heart and action of compassion.
