The Immeasurable and Boundless Nature of the Heart

The Infinite Horizon Within

During the second session of the Thrice Yearning Ceremony held on the eighth of January, 2020, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered profound guidance to the fourfold community of disciples. He spoke of the immeasurable life, the boundless nature of time, and the vastness of space that define our existence. We often perceive our lives as small and confined, yet within the immeasurable, there exists the boundless, and within the boundless, there resides the immeasurable. This is the true nature of the universe, a reality that transcends our limited human perspective.

The Treasures of the True Self

Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju reminded us that the qualities we seek are not found in the external world, but are already present within our own hearts. These treasures include:

• Immeasurable Wisdom: The innate clarity that allows us to see the Truth.
• Virtue and Ability: The inherent capacity to act with goodness and skill.
• Auspicious Characteristics: The natural beauty and grace that arise from a pure heart.
• Boundless Compassion: A heart that embraces all beings without limit.

All of these qualities are already within you and me. When we look inward to search for them, we are actually seeking to rediscover our true self. To see this is to witness the immeasurable and boundless reality of our existence. This is the ultimate Truth.

The Path of Boundless Giving

To walk the path of the Truth, one must act in accordance with it. We must seize the precious time we have while we possess this human body. We must engage in endless acts of service and open our mind-capacity to the widest possible extent. Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju emphasised the necessity of our practice:

• Giving: We must give, and then more giving. This is our natural duty, for our true self is inherently generous and selfless.
• Tolerance: We must practise tolerance, and then more tolerance. To embrace all things is the natural state of our true self.
• Purification: We must engage in purification, and then more purification.

The Journey to Awakening

Purification is the work that requires our greatest effort. It is only through the diligent process of clearing away the dust of our attachments and delusions that we can truly find our way back to our true self. By doing so, we become capable of seeing the immeasurable and boundless world of the heart. This is the goal of our practice at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Let us continue to chant Namo Amituofo all the way, leaving suffering behind and finding happiness in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Namo Amituofo.
