This physical form is a vessel for your spiritual journey, and it is of vital importance. If you did not possess this human body, you would have no lifespan to sustain your existence. Without this life, how could you possibly practise and seek to rediscover your true self? Furthermore, without this physical presence, you would lack the precious opportunity to chant Buddha's name and be reborn in the of Ultimate Bliss. How, then, could you ever hope to transform your , perform the work of , or resolve the conflicts of those sentient beings with whom you share a karmic affinity?
For those who have arrived in this human world through the power of their great vows, this human body is essential; it is the instrument through which your vows can be realised. For those who have been drawn into this cycle of being reincarnated by the weight of their past karma, you must cherish this even more deeply. It provides you with the rare opportunity to practise, to seek liberation from the cycle of birth and death, and to transform your karma. You must recognise that this body is a temporary manifestation, a tool for your spiritual advancement.
You must realise that this body is merely an illusion. If you believe that your name, your status, or your physical appearance in this world can bring you lasting benefit, you are mistaken. You must understand that these aspects of your experience are also part of this illusory play. The many sensations and feelings you experience are manifestations of your karma. They bring you nothing but a fleeting dream; once the dream passes, nothing remains, leaving only the lingering pain of the experience. Do not grasp at these sensations, do not become attached to them, and learn to let go.
This physical form is constantly entangled in the suffering of ageing, sickness, and pain. Do not become attached to these states. You must learn to let go of your attachment to these conditions. Because the experience of ageing, sickness, and suffering, as well as your attachment to them, are all manifestations of your karma, they are nothing more than empty, illusory appearances. You must learn to let go of them all. By doing so, you return to the purity of your true self and walk the path toward the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. .
