In the hidden realms of existence, far beyond the reach of our physical , the laws of and cause and effect are constantly at work. Everything unfolds according to the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Our karma is not a static force; it is a dynamic process that shifts and adjusts based on the goodness or impurity within our hearts, as well as the inherent nature of impermanence. Because we have already created causes in the past, we must eventually face the corresponding results. However, the timing and the manner in which these consequences manifest are not entirely fixed.
If a karmic result has not yet occurred, there remains a variable. This variable is determined by your karma, as well as your commitment to the three pillars of the path: Faith, a firm, unwavering belief in the Buddha and the efficacy of the Pure Land path; Vows, a strong, resolute determination to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss; and Practice, diligent, consistent effort in chanting and purifying one's body, mind, and spirit.
If your faith in the Buddha is not firm, if your vows are weak and easily swayed, and if your practice lacks the strength to make progress, then you will inevitably face the negative consequences of the negative causes you have sown. You will experience the retribution exactly as it was destined to unfold.
However, if your faith is steadfast, your vows are immovable, and your practice is vigorous and progressive, the situation changes. Although the negative causes have already been created, the resulting retribution will be transformed in the hidden realms. Through your sincere practice, you may find that a heavy karmic debt is repaid with a much lighter experience, or that the retribution is significantly delayed. This occurs because your Faith, Vows, and Practice are no longer in sync with the negative karma. By maintaining this focus, you are effectively eliminating karma and reducing obstacles within the very process of your daily practice.
It is vital to understand that the workings of the universe do not pause or cease simply because one believes or does not believe in them. The laws of karma and cause and effect continue to operate with perfect impartiality, strictly following the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. This is the inherent fairness of karma. Furthermore, the way you respond to the consequences of your past actions can fundamentally alter the outcome of your current situation.
When you encounter the bitter fruit of past negative actions, your mindset becomes the deciding factor in your future. If you can maintain a heart of gratitude, feel genuine shame for your past mistakes, and engage in sincere repenting, you are already on the path to transformation. By choosing to see the good, think the good, do the good, and speak the good, you can turn a negative experience into a positive one, thereby reducing your suffering or even eliminating it entirely.
Conversely, if you respond to suffering with complaints, resentment, and a refusal to acknowledge your past errors, you are only deepening your own cycle of pain. By choosing to see the bad, think the bad, do the bad, and speak the bad, you invite further negativity, causing your suffering to multiply. This is the direct result of how your hearts and actions interact with the hidden workings of the universe. Therefore, always remember to keep your heart aligned with the Buddha, and continue chanting Namo Amituofo with a sincere and grateful mind.
