The Great Ability of the Pure Land Path

The Power of Perseverance

During the Thrice Yearning Ceremony, we reflect upon the profound nature of true ability. To perform what is difficult to do is the mark of a great capacity. It is through this immense power that one can break through the barriers of the mind and manifest the light of wisdom. This is not merely a physical strength, but a spiritual fortitude that allows the practitioner to transcend the limitations of the ordinary world.

When you act with a heart of no-self and no-other, you are able to exert your full strength without the burden of ego. You must realise that all worldly actions eventually return to emptiness. While we engage in the tasks of this world, we must understand that these are all entering the state of empty phenomena. It is in this state of emptiness that one can truly accomplish great things, for the mind is no longer obstructed by attachments or desires.

The Example of Practitioner Su

Practitioner Su is a rare example of one who understands this truth. He works within the realm of emptiness, yet he accomplishes great deeds for the benefit of all. This is the precious quality of one who has realised their true nature. By letting go of the self, he has become a vessel for the compassion of Namo Amituofo, demonstrating that true ability lies in the total surrender to the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.

The Supreme Pure Land

When your mind is pure, your ability becomes immeasurable. This is the supreme path of the Pure Land, which serves as the necessary condition for all who seek to achieve Buddhahood. The Pure Land is the ultimate refuge for infinite creatures, providing a sanctuary where they can leave suffering behind and find true happiness. By cultivating this pure ability, you become a beacon of light for all beings in the cycle of rebirth.
