Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe. On the thirteenth of January, 2023, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju provided these essential instructions for our practice. Do not dwell on the past, and do not worry about the future; instead, focus entirely on the present moment. It is within this very moment that you can clearly perceive the future and the path that lies ahead.
This clarity is the natural ability of an awakened being—a person whose eyes can see through the veil of illusion and whose ears can hear the truth of the universe. This is the innate potential that is revealed when one has realised their true self.
The essence of our practice is to wash away the pollution and obstacles that cloud our Six Roots. By doing so, we reclaim the original, pristine capabilities of our senses. When you live honestly and fully in every present moment, you learn to make the best use of that time.
Every moment you experience is a building block for the future. In truth, the future is not something distant; it is already manifesting within the present moment. If you wish to know what your future holds, look at how you are living right now.
The future of your path depends entirely upon your heart. Your heart acts as the guide for your body and spirit. When your heart is aligned with the truth, it can lead you to break through ten thousand difficulties, move forward with courage, and overcome every challenge that arises.
Conversely, if your heart is filled with frustration, lack of confidence, or a desire to give up, it will lead your body and spirit into a state of stagnation, causing you to lose your momentum and stop moving forward. Everything in your life manifests because of the state of your heart. It is through the heart that we advance, through the heart that we retreat, and through the heart that we change and transform our circumstances.
