Understanding Namo Amituofo and the Forty-eight Great Vows
is the essential journey that every practitioner must undertake to achieve success in the study of the Buddha's teachings. It is the gateway to understanding the profound nature of reality. It is not merely an intellectual milestone or a fleeting moment of clarity, but a profound and lasting transformation of the spirit. When you integrate your daily practice into this state of awakening, you achieve what we call realisation through practice. This is the moment where your understanding and your actions become one, creating a seamless path toward liberation. Without this integration, the path remains incomplete.
Look around you at the world. Every single element of the natural world—the earthly creatures, the myriad things, the grass, and the trees—serves as a teacher. Whether it is a sentient being with emotions or an insentient object, everything you see with your eyes, hear with your ears, or feel within your body is an opportunity for insight. The interaction between your Six Roots and the is constant, occurring 24/7. Every word you read, every sentence you hear, every verse you recite, and every utterance you encounter is an object of awakening. This means that 24/7, you are living in the very moment of awakening. You are surrounded by the , and every experience is a lesson waiting to be understood if you only open your heart to it.
However, you must be careful. If you claim to have awakened but do not truly change your behaviour or deepen your practice, your insight remains merely superficial. It is like speaking of the taste of honey without ever having eaten it; the words may be correct, but the experience is absent. If you only understand these truths with your mouth or your heart but fail to apply them, you cannot gain the true benefits of the Dharma. True progress requires more than just knowing; it requires the consistent application of your faith. You must move beyond the surface and allow the teachings to penetrate your heart, transforming your reactions and your character. Without this internal shift, your practice will not bear fruit.
Whether you experience a small awakening, a great awakening, or a sudden awakening, these are all the fruits of your accumulated purification. Each step you take in clearing away the dust of the brings you closer to the light of your true self. You must take these insights and return them to your true self. When you change your habits and refine your conduct after an awakening, you will finally begin to reap the true benefits of the Dharma. This is the fastest way to rediscover your true self and return to the source of your being. By consistently purifying your body, mind, and spirit, you ensure that your awakening is not just a temporary state, but a permanent shift toward the of Ultimate Bliss.
