Understanding Namo Amituofo and the Forty-eight Great Vows
On the eleventh day of the Yilan Body-Mind-Spirit Seminar and , titled ' the Life-Heart, Living a New Life,' offers these profound teachings on the nature of the Zen Heart.
In the practice of Zen, one finds that the heart is as fluid as the wind and as gentle as water. It carries the cool, refreshing quality of true freedom. Zen also embodies the stability of the earth and the transformative power of fire. It is found within the practice of Patience (Endurance), manifesting both when we are in motion and when we are still. Meditative concentration is the foundation of Zen practice, while the state of being 'unmoved' is the true essence of the Zen Heart.
When you can remain 'unmoved' while in the midst of daily activity, you have truly attained Zen in motion. This state of being 'unmoved' is not a lack of action, but a profound clarity within the movement itself. When you possess this Zen intention, you will realise that the inner peace you experience is far superior to the chaos of the world. Because your heart understands the ultimate truth, you no longer feel the need to argue or compete with the world.
Within the space of this Zen intention, you are able to see the whole picture of your life as if it were clearly foreseen. This is the manifestation of Wisdom (Prajna). When you can maintain this awareness, your heart will naturally understand its own nature. Through the integration of the Zen Heart and Zen practice, you will give rise to great Wisdom (Prajna). By remaining 'unmoved' in your actions, your true self becomes clear and bright. Your heart becomes one with the Zen intention, and you will know your own heart completely.
A heart that is truly free is like the embodiment of Zen itself. When you can reach this level of understanding, you will know how to apply it to your daily practice. Let your heart be your guide as you walk the path of the , always returning to the source of your true self. Namo Amituofo.
