The Buddha’s teachings are sought through the gateway of respect. If one approaches the without a heart of respect, it is difficult to truly receive the profound benefits of the Dharma. Respect is not merely a gesture; it is the essential condition for spiritual growth.
What does it mean to be truly respectful? It means to be humble and modest, to be free from the shackles of ego-attachment and personal views. When you do not place your own self at the centre of your world, you become capable of listening to the guidance of a true spiritual friend. By accepting their perspectives and instructions, you can begin to change your ways. This is how one truly gains the benefits of the Dharma.
When you change your ways day by day, and make progress with every step, you are engaging in the process of purification. Through this continuous refinement, the hope of becoming an awakened being becomes a reality. Do not be a person who is stubbornly attached to their own subjective views. Instead, cultivate a mind that is open and receptive to the truth.
