On the twenty-seventh of June, 2020, during the second session of the , Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered these profound teachings on the nature of Purity. These words serve as a beacon for all who seek to deepen their practice and return to their original nature.
To purify the heart and reduce one's desires is the essential first step in your spiritual journey. When you begin to let go of worldly cravings, you find that you can simply follow the conditions of life with ease. This is the true sign that your practice is advancing. As you continue to cultivate pure and virtues, you will find that the merit of the begins to manifest within you. This is the hallmark of a practitioner who has achieved success in their cultivation.
When your heart is pure and devoid of all objects of attachment, your body becomes transparent and free from all obstacles. This is the true appearance of one who is deep in practice. Think of your mind as water: when it is clear and pure, it reflects the truth perfectly. When you combine this clarity with a heart of sincere repenting, you are able to wash away the karmic fruits that have accumulated over countless lifetimes. Just as clear water allows you to see the very bottom, a clear mind allows you to see the truth of existence. Conversely, when the water of the mind is murky, it becomes a breeding ground for the moss of ignorance and defilement.
Purity brings a cool, refreshing sense of ease and freedom. A broad and open heart leads to a state of profound peace. When you are pure and untainted by the world, you manifest the fragrant body of a lotus, rising above the mud of samsara. When you are bright and free from all defilement, you will see the light of wisdom arise within you. This light is clear and clean; it dispels the darkness of ignorance and leads you into the brilliance of the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Purity is the ideal state of being, for it is entirely free from all impurities and distractions. When you are clear and bright, your true self will always be with you. In this state of purity, your body and mind feel light and comfortable. Without any obstacles or worries, a heart of gratitude naturally arises, and you will finally see your true self.
May all practitioners strive for this purity, for it is the gateway to the of Ultimate Bliss.
