In the Midst of the Suffering of the Saha World, Only Fragrant Light is a Ray of Hope
During the third session of the , we reflect on the profound nature of purity. These are the teachings of Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, as recorded by Venerable HaiZe, offering us a vital lesson on how the quality of our practice determines our spiritual clarity and our ultimate success on the path to Buddhahood.
Just as gold is valued for its lack of impurities, our spiritual life is measured by the clarity of our heart. When gold is pure, it is cherished by all. Similarly, a precious gemstone is prized because it contains not a single speck of dust. It is bright, transparent, and radiates a pure, brilliant light. This is the standard we must strive for in our own practice.
Practising the Buddha's teachings is exactly the same. Our heart and body are like a vessel. If we allow ourselves to become stained by worldly attachments, our purity diminishes. Consider this delicate balance:
This is a constant, ongoing process of refinement. We must be vigilant in our daily lives to ensure that we are not accumulating unnecessary burdens that cloud our true nature.
We continue this work of purification until we reach a state of absolute purity and perfect Goodness. When there is not even a single trace of contamination left within us, that is the moment of Awakening. At this stage, one truly realises their original nature and sees the world with the clarity of the Buddha.
When one reaches this state of pure Goodness, they are truly in harmony with the Buddha. They no longer act for themselves, but dedicate their entire existence to the work of saving infinite suffering beings. This is the ultimate goal of our practice at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. May we all strive to refine our hearts until we shine with the light of pure, unblemished wisdom.
