In the Midst of the Suffering of the Saha World, Only Fragrant Light is a Ray of Hope
These teachings were offered by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju and recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe. During the held on January 8, 2022, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju provided a compassionate teaching regarding the nature of existence, using the metaphor of a butterfly to illustrate the profound truths of the cycle of rebirth.
The colourful butterfly dances gracefully, bringing with it a sense of vitality and hope. It flutters its brilliant wings, dancing alongside the gentle breeze amidst the blooming flowers. This imagery reminds us that while life may appear vibrant and full of promise, it is inherently transient and fragile. We must reflect deeply upon this: while you possess a physical form, you must gather the nectar of wisdom. Once the form is gone, you can only gaze upon the nectar and sigh in regret.
Flowers bloom and wither in cycles; the wind pauses only to blow again. Yet, the butterfly is no longer seen among the flowers; its spirit now drifts alone in the vast expanse of space. It now resides in a different dimension, and its physical form can no longer be found. We may hold the image of the butterfly in our dreams, but in the next life, it remains a butterfly.
The teaching continues to reveal the underlying causes of such a state. In a past life, this being was beautiful but ignorant. Through the creation of negative , it fell into of a butterfly. Life after life, when will this end? The cycle of rebirth as a butterfly seems to have no conclusion. This serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of our actions and the importance of cultivating wisdom while we have the precious opportunity of human life.
However, there is hope even in the deepest cycles of suffering. When the butterfly hears the sacred name of Namo Amituofo, a transformation begins. The butterfly joins in the chanting, and finally, it leaves the butterfly form to be reborn in a human body. This is the miraculous power of the six-character name, which acts as a beacon of light for all beings lost in the darkness of the six realms.
We are deeply grateful to the compassionate Namo Amituofo, whose six-character name saves all spirits. This teaching reminds us that no matter how far a being has fallen, the path to liberation is always open through the sincere practice of Buddha-recitation. Let us cherish this opportunity, practise diligently, and leave suffering behind to find true happiness in the of Ultimate Bliss.
