The Buddha of Infinite Light

During the first session of the Thrice Yearning Ceremony held on September 1, 2024, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju provided these essential teachings regarding the nature of the Buddha of Infinite Light.

The Twelve Radiations of Namo Amituofo

When we speak of the Buddha of Infinite Light, we are referring directly to Namo Amituofo. The Buddha possesses twelve distinct forms of light, each representing a specific aspect of His boundless merit and compassion. These names are not merely titles; they are the very essence of Namo Amituofo Himself:

• Buddha of Infinite Light: Radiance that knows no bounds in extent.
• Buddha of Boundless Light: Radiance that reaches into every corner of existence.
• Buddha of Unobstructed Light: Radiance that cannot be blocked by any obstacle or karmic barrier.
• Buddha of Unequalled Light: Radiance that surpasses all other forms of light in the universe.
• Buddha of Wisdom Light: Radiance that illuminates the darkness of ignorance with perfect Wisdom.
• Buddha of Constant Light: Radiance that shines eternally without pause or cessation.
• Buddha of Pure Light: Radiance that cleanses and purifies all who come into contact with it.
• Buddha of Joyful Light: Radiance that brings profound peace and spiritual bliss to the heart.
• Buddha of Liberation Light: Radiance that guides beings toward freedom from the cycle of rebirth.
• Buddha of Peaceful Light: Radiance that brings stability and calm to the troubled mind.
• Buddha of Light Surpassing the Sun and Moon: Radiance that outshines all worldly sources of illumination.
• Buddha of Inconceivable Light: Radiance that is beyond the reach of human logic and conceptual thought.

The Unity of Infinite Radiance

It is vital to understand that any one of these names inherently contains the other eleven. Because the nature of the Buddha is non-dual, one light is simultaneously twelve, and twelve are one. This is the principle of the One being the Many, and the Many being the One. We use these descriptive titles only as a means to help our limited minds grasp the supreme, inconceivable merit and power of the Buddha-light.

The Pervasive Reach of the Buddha-light

The radiance of Namo Amituofo is truly endless. His light permeates the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, transcends the three thousand great thousand-fold worlds, and fills the entire vastness of the Dharma Realm and empty space. This light is not merely a physical phenomenon; it is the manifestation of infinite Wisdom, constant illumination, purity, joy, liberation, peace, and the inconceivable power that surpasses the sun and the moon.

The Power of Light in Our Practice

At the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, where Namo Amituofo is truly residing, we witness the practical application of this light. You may ask how Practitioner Su is able to subdue the countless demon crowds that seek to obstruct the path of liberation. The answer lies in the fact that Practitioner Su also embodies these twelve lights. He carries within his practice the Infinite, Boundless, Unobstructed, and Unequalled Light, as well as the profound Wisdom, constant illumination, purity, joy, liberation, peace, and the inconceivable power of the Buddha.

This is the path of true practice. As disciples of the Buddha, you must follow this example, cultivate these qualities within your own heart, and let the light of Namo Amituofo shine through your every action.
