When the heart of arises, the heart itself begins to radiate a brilliant, inner light. It is only through the cultivation of a true heart—a heart free from the veils of ego and attachment—that one can truly perceive the nature of compassion. In this world, the heart of mercy is a rare and precious treasure. It is the driving force that compels us to look upon the suffering of others and vow to help them leave their pain behind. While it is often difficult for us to let go of our attachments to sentient beings in this human world, the path that appears in the world offers us the warmth of true compassion, which transcends all worldly boundaries.
Our hearts respond differently depending on the conditions we encounter. Sentient beings are often bound by the heavy chains of , and without the right conditions, the heart of compassion may struggle to manifest. However, when compassion for the arises from the depths of one's true self, it becomes a universal force. Whether a being is connected to us by karmic affinity or not, the compassionate heart embraces them all with equal warmth and sincerity.
What does it mean to embody this compassionate heart in our daily lives? It is a practice that manifests in simple, yet profound ways:
Because we cannot bear to see the endless suffering of beings, we must strive to become an awakened being. This is the core of our practice. To achieve this, we must engage in the following:
Ultimately, the sacred name of must be proclaimed throughout the entire Dharma Realm. Let us hold this name in our hearts, chant it with unwavering faith, and allow the light of compassion to guide us all the way home to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Namo Amituofo.
