My dear children, do not fear when you fall. The ability to stand up again is what matters. The true tragedy is not the fall itself, but the failure to rise, allowing that state to define your entire life. It is a great pity to waste this precious human body and this heart, which is capable of so much more.
Letting go of the self—the practice of —is the vital key to overcoming the obstacles that cause you to fall. This is especially true in your spiritual practice. If you cling to the self, you will find it difficult to encompass others. You have become accustomed to making the self the centre of your world, constantly trying to protect this 'I' from harm. Once you stumble, you find the experience unbearable.
In truth, this is a moment of either growth or regression. If you do not stand up, the fall becomes a lingering pain. You will carry this burden throughout your life, and your spiritual growth will be obstructed. However, if you choose to stand up again, the very experiences you have endured will be transformed into the tempering of your life.
Through being humble and modest and by bowing your head to admit your mistakes, your spirit will be elevated, allowing your practice to take a great leap forward. Do not let the weight of your past mistakes keep you down; instead, let them be the foundation upon which you rise to reach the . Namo Amituofo.
