These teachings were recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on the sixth of November, 2021. In this discourse, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offers profound guidance on the necessity of humility in our spiritual journey.
To recognise one's own insufficiency is not merely a polite social convention or a hollow phrase used to appear humble. Rather, it is a profound and sincere truth that must arise from the very depths of your heart. When you truly look within, you begin to see the vast distance between your current state and the perfection of the Buddha.
When we speak of this insufficiency, we are not referring to worldly metrics such as material wealth, social status, academic knowledge, or professional standing. These are fleeting and hold no weight in the context of the eternal. Instead, we are looking at the spiritual qualities that define our journey toward the of Ultimate Bliss:
Furthermore, we must examine our relationship with and the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Often, we find that our faith, our vows, and our capacity for practice are insufficient. We may believe we are walking the path, yet our hearts remain tethered to the world. To truly progress, we must cultivate the Six Perfections, which are currently lacking in our daily lives:
Before the vast power and infinite ability of Namo Amituofo, we must humbly acknowledge our own limitations. By doing so, you can finally let go of the ego—that small, grasping sense of self that hinders your growth. When you set aside this ego and commit yourself to diligent practice, you create the space for your spirit to become full and complete. This is the only way to reach the state of an awakened being. Namo Amituofo.
