Understanding Namo Amituofo and the Forty-eight Great Vows
This is a record of an interview with Lu Yaying, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her recent transition from the human world. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on June 5, 2026.
Lu Yaying speaks:
". I have now officially arrived in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and I am here to report my safety to everyone. My name is Lu Yaying, and I have just attained rebirth in the Western Pure Land. Through the sounding of the great qing by Practitioner Su, we were all guided here together. I am one of those beings, and besides myself, my husband, who passed away many years ago, also arrived here in the Western Pure Land at the same time as me.
It is truly inconceivable! I had not been away from the human world for very long, and everything happened so quickly. At the time, I was still wandering in a state of confusion, lingering in a space that felt strangely familiar yet distant. I had known this place once, but because I had become so muddled in my old age—my mind was no longer clear, and I could never quite remember things—it felt as though I had lost most of my past memories. Suddenly being thrust into such a space left me quite bewildered; it felt like a dream, yet at times, it felt incredibly real.
After spending what felt like an eternity in that hazy, lost state, I suddenly saw a brilliant light shining upon me. I thought the light was everywhere, but no matter how I looked, I could not find its source; it was only the light directly above my head. Then, I heard my name being called from within that light, accompanied by the sound of the Buddha-name being chanted. It was a scene that left me absolutely stunned. I was so incredibly happy! I knew immediately that someone had come to save me. I followed that light directly, and accompanied by Practitioner Su, I arrived at the .
During my time in the Western -Nature Land, I slowly began to understand what a Buddha truly is. I fully absorbed everything that Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su taught me. Although my mind was not sharp when I was alive in the human world, now that I have shed my physical body, my spirit has become so much clearer since arriving in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. I am no longer that elderly person suffering from dementia. Having lived for so many years, it was all worth it, because the greatest thing of all is being able to attain rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
While I was in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, as I gradually grasped the truth of reality, my heart became filled with deep reverence for the Buddha. I am so incredibly grateful to Namo Amituofo, and I am also deeply grateful to Practitioner Su. One is a Buddha who attained Buddhahood a very, very long time ago, and the other is a Buddha who has realised his true nature and attained Buddhahood while in the human world. I had never heard the name 'Practitioner Su' before, and it was only when I reached the Western Dharma-Nature Land that I learned who he was. The name is concise and powerful; it sounds like a Buddha of immense Wisdom. I had never imagined that a person could actually attain Buddhahood while still in the human world. Yet, before my eyes, I could see the physical body of Practitioner Su conducting the , and I could also see his immeasurable and boundless , which is currently saving so many, many beings. In that moment, I truly believed it: people really can become Buddhas!
The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is a world of incredible clarity and brilliance. Everyone here looks quite similar, and everyone is so, so kind. There are no complex or spoken languages; everything you need is fulfilled the very moment a thought arises. You do not need to be like people in the human world, where you might struggle with a problem for a very long time without finding an answer. Here, any question is answered instantly, and every desire is satisfied. This is the nature of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
I sincerely thank my children for arranging this Chao Du for me. It spared me from having to suffer for a long time after my death, and I did not have to worry about where I was going. Now, my heart is completely at peace. I know that everything from my past was merely an illusion—it should have been let go of long ago, and there is no need to keep it in the depths of my heart. My children have all grown up, and they are so filial; I am completely at ease. If they can practise the Buddha's teachings diligently and follow the Buddha's footsteps step by step, that would be the best thing of all, far better than just having me brought here.
As for me, this old mother—these old bones and this human body—are of no use anymore. Please, do not worry about me, because I have 'upgraded.' I have moved to a wonderful place, and I am looking forward to the day they arrive; I will certainly be here to welcome them. Of course, I will not say much, nor will I act in the way a mother is expected to act. In this world, there are no such relationships, no such attachments, and no such worries. This is a world where all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas practise together, learning from the Buddha how to attain Buddhahood. I am doing very well here, so please, do not worry. Please, you must save yourselves. That is what Practitioner Su says, and I am just learning to apply it to them. To save yourself is to save your own soul. Do not be too attached to your physical body, and you will be able to save your soul. Only when the soul attains rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is it truly complete and eternal. Otherwise, once this skin bag grows old in the world, it really is of no use. If it cannot be used to save others, then return to the Western Pure Land early.
Thankfully, I have now set foot on the soil of the Western Pure Land. I have no regrets about the past, and continuing forward is all I wish to do now. I am so grateful for the compassionate guidance of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. This disciple, Lu Yaying, offers three bows and three prostrations to the Buddha.
