Within the sacred environment of the temple, the bodhimanda, the monastic community, or any group dedicated to the Dharma, the affairs of the collective must always be treated with the highest priority. When we serve the community, we are not merely completing tasks; we are engaging in a rare and precious opportunity to cultivate both merit and wisdom. It is essential that we approach these duties with a joyful heart, recognising that every act of service is a step forward on our path to awakening.

We must be vigilant, ensuring that our personal factors, preferences, or delays do not hinder the progress of the collective. How often do we allow our own attachments to slow down the work that benefits all beings? We must strive to be selfless, putting the needs of the group before our own convenience.

The Ripple Effect of Our Intentions

When our actions or presence cause others within the fourfold assembly to stir their thoughts and intentions, we must be mindful of the nature of those thoughts. If our influence inspires others to generate wholesome thoughts, that is a positive contribution. However, if our actions or delays cause others to develop evil thoughts or negative intentions, we must be aware that the source of this negativity originates with us. We will inevitably have to bear the consequences according to the laws of karma and cause and effect.

Therefore, when personal matters and public duties arise simultaneously, we must always choose to address the public duties first. We must prioritise the tasks that the community is waiting for, or those that are urgent for the overall progress of the temple. By doing so, we avoid causing delays for the fourfold assembly, ensuring that the collective work continues smoothly and efficiently.

The Boundless Mission at Hsiang Kuang

At Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, every single task is a mission to save countless suffering beings. We should view the affairs of the community as our own personal affairs, for we are all part of the same vast assembly of beings. Because Namo Amituofo truly abides at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the focus of Namo Amituofo is also the focus of our temple. The Dharma affinity of Namo Amituofo pervades the entire Dharma Realm, and thus, the Dharma affinity of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is equally vast and boundless.

Embracing the Vastness of the Dharma Realm

The fourfold assembly of disciples must cultivate a mind-capacity as vast and inclusive as that of Namo Amituofo. We should learn to embrace all beings, even those who are difficult to accept. As we deepen our practice and achieve success, our ultimate goal remains the same: to save countless suffering beings. In this process of selfless service, the beings residing within our own bodies will be the first to be saved. When we view the affairs of the community as our own, we align ourselves with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. Let us hold this perspective firmly and act accordingly, with every thought and intention directed toward the liberation of all.
