Practising Goodness
Where do demons reside? In truth, they arise from within your own heart. When your heart is filled with the myriad images of this world, you must maintain your focus on the righteous path. Do not allow your heart to churn with confusion or unnecessary agitation.
When the heart churns, strange manifestations appear. These manifestations lead the minds of sentient beings astray, disturbing their righteous hearts and scattering their pure thoughts. Why would you choose to bring such suffering upon yourself?
How can you dissolve these demonic obstacles? It is achieved by transforming your heart. The difference between a Buddha and a demon is but a single thought. When you transform your thoughts, you become a Buddha. This is not a difficult path to follow.
The difficulty lies in the knots within your heart, which are the accumulations of past hardships. However, you must realise that this present moment is not the same as the past. You must learn to let go of everything that has come before.
What are these obstacles that hinder your progress? They are anything that deviates from the righteous path of cultivation. When you stray from the Truth, you enter the path of evil. Therefore, you must be extremely cautious with every thought that arises and every action you take.
You must remain vigilant to ensure your practice stays aligned with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.
If you can reach a state of no-thought, no-feeling, and no-perception, you are truly without a heart of attachment. When there is no heart to grasp, the demon has nowhere to take hold, and the obstacle cannot manifest.
If thoughts do not arise, the demon is no longer a demon. The strength of the obstacle will turn to weakness, and that weakness will eventually vanish, returning to the state of ordinary, peaceful existence. Through no-thought, you break through the demons. Through no-heart, you break through the obstacles. This teaching was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
