Understanding Namo Amituofo and the Forty-eight Great Vows
When you truly open the capacity of your heart, you will discover that your heart is inherently boundless and vast. It is a space that encompasses everything, containing within it an inexhaustible depth that you have yet to fully realise. Most of us live with a heart that feels constricted, limited by our own attachments and the narrow views we hold of ourselves and the world around us. To open this capacity is to return to the original, infinite nature of your own being.
To achieve this, you must learn to stop dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Do not think of the left or the right, nor of what has already transpired or what is yet to come. There is no past to cling to; there is only the present moment. When you reside fully in the present, you are no longer a prisoner of time.
Throughout your many lives, you have accumulated countless memories, grievances, and attachments. These are the bits and pieces of your history that you carry with you like heavy stones. If you choose to stir these memories, you will inevitably find yourself trapped in pain and suffering once again. When you allow these past experiences to surface and affect your current state of mind, you are choosing to endure the suffering of those moments all over again.
Instead, you must learn to let go. For every member of the fourfold assembly of disciples, the path to liberation requires that you:
Living in this way is infinitely better than remaining trapped in the cycle of anger, regret, and hatred. Do not create any longer. If you create karma, you must bear the consequences yourself; the and the suffering are yours alone to taste, and no one else can bear them for you.
To open the capacity of your heart is to learn to encompass everything that comes your way. You must develop a heart that remains steady and unmoved, regardless of the nature of your experiences. This is the true attainment in practice. You must learn to view all things with equanimity, allowing them to pass through your heart without leaving a trace:
When you reach this level of attainment in practice, you will realise that all these things are the same. They do not influence your heart because your heart is rooted in meditative concentration. It remains still, calm, and completely undisturbed by the external world. This is the essence of your spiritual journey—to maintain this clarity and stillness, no matter what the world presents to you. By doing so, you are truly walking the path of the Buddha, guided by the light of .
