Observing Potential and Acting Accordingly

Teachings by Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju:

Observing potential and acting accordingly is the way of a wise person.

Those who observe potential can be Buddhas or Bodhisattvas, patriarchs and venerable masters, true spiritual friends, or virtuous guides,

and the objects of their observation can be people, events, objects, or scenery.

Any person, event, object, scene, the physical world—wishing to be as free as the wind, mountains & rivers, or any crawling or flying creature

can be observed.

Regardless of whether the object of observation is a person, event, object, or scene, there is a spirit present within it.

Spiritual beings possess the true self / self-nature; if they receive teachings, they can achieve Awakening and all shall become a Buddha.

This is also the principle behind why the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, established by Namo Amituofo through the manifestation of His Forty-eight Great Vows from His true self / self-nature, can help beings achieve Awakening and realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood.

Those who observe potential can observe the immediate needs and the needs of this lifetime of the other party to provide teachings,

and determine what kind of teachings can be both suitable to their potential and in accordance with the Dharma to help them resolve their confusion.

The most magnificent method is to clear the blockages within their body, thereby leading them to achieve Awakening.

This is the magnificent aspect of how those who observe potential assess the root nature of others and provide teachings.

This world of the Five Turbidities and Evil World is ever-changing and filled with confusion everywhere,

often leaving people within it not knowing which way to turn.

If, amidst their karma, they are able to encounter the Goodness of the Dharma, then their heart will move towards the path of Goodness;

if, amidst their karma, they are unfortunate enough to encounter evil, biased, or deviant teachings and move towards deviant paths,

that is truly a pity, as it casts a shadow over their Dharma Body and wisdom,

when will they be able to achieve purification and liberation?

Consequently, they step by step enter into deviant states, and the suffering they endure is beyond words;

after death, their spirit enters the hells to suffer, and this is the sorrow of the spirit.

If one is fortunate enough to encounter a Buddha or Bodhisattva, patriarchs and venerable masters, or a true spiritual friend manifesting in this world,

and receive teachings according to one's potential, one is truly fortunate.

Because those who observe potential have already achieved Awakening, they can see the past, present, and future,

and know the specialities of those they are to save,

and what methods to use to help them resolve their confusion and clear the blockages.

Once this place is cleared, many other parts of the body may also be cleared as a result, or even the entire body may be cleared,

and if the whole body is clear, that is the moment of Awakening.

Students of Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre should seize this magnificent and rare opportunity,

Namo Amituofo is residing here, and the Buddha, the Teacher, and Practitioner Su observe potential and act accordingly to teach beings.

The fourfold assembly (monks, nuns, laymen, laywomen) and the beings within their bodies are the direct recipients of salvation,

so they should keep gratitude in their heart and always show a smile,

and 24/7, never let the sacred name of Amitabha leave their lips, their heart, or their actions,

then they will not be far from Awakening.
