Understanding Namo Amituofo and the Forty-eight Great Vows
My dear children, please listen quietly to these few words from the Buddha. This invitation is not merely for the ears of the practitioners present here. It is a call to all who dwell within and around you:
You are all children of the Buddha. Each of you is an independent being, and each of you possesses the inherent potential to become a Buddha. It is my deepest wish that you might all merge into one harmonious whole. While I understand that this is not an easy task to achieve in the midst of your worldly lives, it is, in truth, the only genuine method to leave suffering behind.
If you find that achieving this unity is difficult, then I ask you to consider your own well-being. Look at your life today. Are you living in peace and happiness? If you find that your days are filled with hardship, you must ask yourself why. Is it because you are caught in the endless cycle of seeking to collect debts, pursuing revenge, or harbouring deep-seated resentment? There are countless reasons for your suffering, but the root cause remains the same.
As long as you live in a state of unhappiness and endure the constant torment of emotional and spiritual turmoil, you are trapped. Regardless of the specific cause of your pain, I urge you to change your space. Only by shifting your focus can you truly save yourself. In the world of the six realms of existence, the cycle is relentless. Today, you seek to collect a debt from me; tomorrow, I seek to collect from you. No one lets go, and everyone is searching for the other to settle old scores. As long as you remain within this cycle, you cannot escape the painful reality of debt and retribution.
Why not choose a different path? Why not begin chanting Buddha's name right now? I have prepared the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss specifically for you. In that sacred realm, there is no debt to collect or repay. There is no seeking of revenge, no lingering pain, and no suffering. Instead, there is only Infinite Life, Infinite Light—a boundless expanse of radiance and .
It is my sincere hope that all of you will come to this place. Right here, at this very moment, and throughout this Dharma assembly, I extend my arms to you. I am here to lead all the children who chant Buddha's name into the Western Land. May you find your way home.
