This is a record of an interview with Zou Guiqing, the grandmother of Lay Practitioner Yu Aiping, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition from the darkness of the spirit realms to the light of the Buddha. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on January 10, 2025.
Zou Guiqing speaks:
". I am Zou Guiqing, and that was the name I bore throughout my life in the human world. When I finally stood before the Buddha, I could not hold back my tears. They were tears of profound emotion, of overwhelming gratitude toward the Buddha and Practitioner Su for helping me escape the sea of suffering. Now that I have arrived in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, my heart is filled with pure, radiant light. I know that all the pain and suffering I endured are finally in the past. Beyond gratitude, I have nothing else to offer—it is simply gratitude, endless and deep.
I am profoundly grateful that my descendants still remembered me and took the initiative to help me receive Chao Du. Without their , I might still be lost in the shadows."
"From the moment I passed away, I was trapped in a dark, desolate space. It was a place of such profound loneliness. I often felt a sense of utter bleakness, wandering aimlessly and yearning to find a place of light, but no matter how far I travelled or how hard I tried, I could never reach it. It was as if the light was a world away, forever out of my grasp.
Finally, guided by a brilliant beam of light, I was led out of that suffocating darkness. From that moment on, the light never left my sight. It became my only hope, and I clung to it with every fibre of my being. It was only after I regained a measure of clarity that I realised that light was the Buddha Himself. It was the Buddha’s light that reached out to save me, and it was the power of the Chao Du ceremony that pulled me out of that dark, lonely abyss. My spirit only truly began to understand the Buddha from the moment I entered the Buddha-land. I began to learn the importance of chanting Namo Amituofo and how to truly express my gratitude to the Buddha."
"For so long, I did not want to let go of the past. During that time, I truly experienced the bitter reality of the cycle of rebirth. Before I arrived at the Buddha-land, I was just a spirit caught in the endless turning of samsara. I did not know there was any other path to take, so every time my life ended, I simply chose to jump back into the cycle again. It was only now, looking back, that I could see the terrifying whirlpool of samsara for what it really was. I finally understood that I had to step out of that vortex; otherwise, every time I fell back in, I would be like a leaf caught in the wind, never knowing where I would end up or what fate awaited me.
This period of purification has allowed me to see so many things clearly. It has taught me not to cling so tightly to the past. When I finally chose to let go, it was as if a veil had been lifted, and I suddenly understood how to face the suffering I had created for myself and how to move past the places where I had been stuck for so long. Now, I am bathed in the Buddha’s light, and I have gained so much more Wisdom. All of this is thanks to the help of the Buddha."
"I am living in such peace now, and I truly hope that all my descendants can live well, too. If you have the Causal Conditions to learn the , please remember to make your vows, to keep chanting Namo Amituofo, and to seek liberation from this world. Do this to end the suffering of your own life, just as I have finally ended mine.
I am so deeply grateful to Practitioner Su, and I am filled with thanks for the help provided by the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Namo Amituofo."
