Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju. Chief Writer: Venerable HaiZe. This teaching was recorded on the tenth of June, 2022. It serves as a gentle yet firm reminder from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju regarding the essential nature of diligence in our daily lives. The principle of finishing today's work today is far more than a mere suggestion for productivity; it is a profound and positive attitude toward life, and it is a habit that, once cultivated, becomes a cornerstone of one's spiritual journey.
When you do not allow tasks to accumulate, you remove the barriers that clutter your mind and spirit. By addressing your responsibilities as they arise, you ensure that your life remains in harmony with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. This lack of accumulation creates a natural, unobstructed flow in every facet of your existence:
A good attitude and healthy habits are the bedrock of your spiritual progress. Conversely, poor attitudes and undisciplined habits act as heavy obstacles that hinder your ability to realise your true nature. You must always be willing to reflect upon your actions, to adjust your behaviour, and to change your ways whenever necessary. It is vital that you align yourself with the daily schedule and the of the monastic community, as these structures are designed to protect your practice and keep you on the right path.
When you apply the principle of finishing today's work today to your spiritual practice, you ensure that your mind remains pure and focused. You avoid the dangerous pitfalls of laziness, procrastination, and indulgence. This is the ultimate expression of responsibility—not only to yourself but to the path of you have chosen. By staying diligent, you honour your commitment to and to your own liberation. Let this practice be your constant companion, ensuring that you do not let even a single moment pass in vain as you work toward rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss.
