Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, recorded by Venerable HaiZe on October 3, 2021. The world we inhabit is fundamentally illusory, like a dream or a passing shadow. Since you have already left the secular life behind, your heart should also depart from worldly attachments. Do not allow your mind to linger on these transient things any longer. It is time to fully commit to the path of the Buddha.
To walk this path, you must cultivate the right conduct in your daily life. You should speak good words, perform good deeds, and strive to be a good person in every interaction. It is essential that you truly change your latent habits or bad character traits; do not repeat the mistakes of your past. When you commit to this transformation, you clear the path for your spiritual practice.
Everything you do should no longer be for your own benefit, but solely for the sake of all beings. When you reach the state of no-self, you will find that everything is good. You must learn to follow the hearts of beings with , but you must be careful not to let your own heart be disturbed by their confusion. If your thoughts become chaotic, you will attract and lose control of your own mind. This loss of autonomy is truly not worth the price of your spiritual progress.
When we align ourselves with the Truth, we find that every situation becomes an opportunity for liberation. Consider these pillars of practice:
Your practice must be proactive and selfless. If others will not do the work, I will do it. If others are not willing to take the step, I am willing to act. If the hearts of beings are joyful, I am joyful. This is the true expression of the Buddha-heart and the true manifestation of Buddha-actions in this world. .
