This is a record of an interview with Xu Hui, the mother of Lay Practitioner Mao Meiju, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her journey to the Western Pure Land and her deep gratitude for the that led to her liberation. Xu Hui speaks:
", Namo Amituofo. This is the sacred Buddha-name that I have been chanting continuously here in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. We call this the Six-Character Great Name, and it is the very heartbeat of every soul residing in this magnificent realm. In the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, you can hear countless melodies of the Buddha-name, each more beautiful than the last. There are so many variations—some are soft and gentle, others are resonant and powerful. The most incredible thing is that the moment you have a single thought to hear the Buddha-name, it naturally and effortlessly flows into your ears. If you wish for it to be louder, it becomes louder; if you wish for it to be softer, it adjusts perfectly to your desire. The Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is truly a place of such absolute freedom and ease, where there is not a single trace of affliction to be found.
The Presence of Namo Amituofo
I am Xu Hui, and as I speak to you now, I am kneeling at the feet of Namo Amituofo. I have been expressing my endless gratitude to Him, and He has been smiling down at me with such infinite . I see the magnificent, towering form of Namo Amituofo right before my eyes. Even when I travel to other places within this vast realm and He is not physically beside me, the moment I hold the Buddha in my heart, I know with absolute certainty that He is right there with me.
Back when I was in the Western Land of Nature, I had already come to know of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. Even then, I listened to the Buddha-name as chanted by Practitioner Su, and it was profoundly beautiful. I also saw the fourfold assembly of disciples at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, and I realise that the Buddha-name they hear in their daily practice is the very voice of Practitioner Su. Now, I understand why it sounds so exquisite—it is because the Buddha-name is being chanted by one who truly embodies the Buddha's heart! In the human world, I had never heard so many variations of the Buddha-name, but here, I have been blessed to hear them all at once. My ears have truly been blessed by this experience.
A Mother’s Gratitude and Karmic Bonds
Beyond the beauty of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, I truly wish to express my deepest gratitude to my daughter. Our relationship was not like that of a typical mother and daughter; I did not fully fulfil my responsibilities in caring for you during my time in the human world. Looking back on those days now, my heart is filled with nothing but profound gratitude. Although our karmic connection was unique, it was, in truth, incredibly deep.
This time, because you placed your faith in the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre and in Namo Amituofo, we were given the precious opportunity to gather together once more and return to the feet of Namo Amituofo in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Such magnificent karmic conditions are truly a blessing—a virtuous connection that I must have cultivated in my past lives. Your filial piety has moved us all deeply. The events of the past were merely a part of the cycle of karmic conditions and the causes and effects, but today, we have reached a perfect and complete conclusion. I hope that you, too, will eventually return to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, for this is our true and final home.
A Mission for the Future
Having said all this, I truly hope that your life ahead is filled with peace and goodness. Do as much as you can in this lifetime, and when the time comes, return to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Perhaps your mission in this life is to bring all those with whom you share a karmic affinity back here with you. Namo Amituofo."
