A Journey to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss: The Testimony of Lay Practitioner Wei Yufang

This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Wei Yufang, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition and her message to her family. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on October 1, 2021.

Lay Practitioner Wei Yufang speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. Jindong, I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to speak with you like this. To be honest, I spent a long time reflecting before I finally decided to let go of everything from my past and journey to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Once I made that decision, a sudden, profound sense of liberation washed over me—it was as if the sky had opened up, vast and limitless, and my heart was finally at peace.

The Struggle to Let Go

After arriving at the temple, it took quite a long time for me to truly settle my heart. For so long, I was constantly haunted by memories of the past. I kept wanting to check on my family, wondering how you were all doing and what your lives were like. Looking back now, I realise how foolish I was. Without a physical body, all that worrying was completely futile. No matter how long I watched over you, I could never truly be reunited with you in that way. It was a heavy burden to carry, one that only kept me tethered to the world of suffering.

A New Perspective on Life and Death

If I hadn't come to this Buddha-land to listen to the sutras and hear the Dharma, my mindset would have remained trapped in the same old patterns of attachment. It was only when I began to open myself up to truths that were so different from what I had known before that I felt a genuine shift within. This transformation was a gradual process of growth, leading me to this very day, where I am finally willing to open my heart completely and enter the Buddha's realm. Jindong, I have reached the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I am doing wonderfully now; I have become so much more cheerful and open. Please tell the rest of the family that I am perfectly well.

A Message of Gratitude and Encouragement

Fengzhi, I must also thank you. If you hadn't known about the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, I would never have had the Causal Conditions to reach the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. You have always been so diligent in performing Buddhist works, and that is a wonderful thing for you. During my time here at the temple, I have observed so much. I truly want to counsel you both: it is time to focus on your own diligent practice. Do not let yourselves be consumed by the busyness of daily life; you must start planning for your own future.

Everyone must eventually face the ordeal of separation and death. But in truth, once we reach the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, we will only feel joy for one another. This is a path you must walk. Dedicate more time to the Buddha's path, and the rewards you reap will be the only things you can truly take with you. The Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is truly magnificent. I hope that both of you will walk this path together—the path that leads to the end of suffering. Namo Amituofo."
