This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Liang Kun-yan, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. Having successfully transitioned from the cycle of rebirth, he now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his life, his long-standing friendship with a monastic, and his profound gratitude for the guidance that led him home. Lay Practitioner Liang Kun-yan speaks:
". A-Cai, I never imagined that you would eventually become a monastic. Looking at you now, with your head shaved and your robes, you truly look younger than you did in the past. Seeing you brings back so many memories of the days when we used to spend all our time together. Every time we sat down to talk and share our lives, the time would just fly by—it felt like the hours were mere minutes.
Think about it—we are not young anymore. None of us ever expected to see who would be the first to depart from this world. A-Cai, I must express my deepest gratitude to you for bringing me to this place of Namo Amituofo. If you hadn't, I truly do not know how much longer I would have been left to wander in the darkness. Seeing you here in this Buddha-land, working silently and diligently just as you always did in the past, makes me so happy for you. At the very least, you have found a place that brings you true peace of mind. You have far more than any of us.
From the Depths of Suffering to the Buddha-land
While I have been here in the listening to the teachings, I have encountered many truths that I was completely unaware of before. Listening to them now, I find them incredibly beneficial; however, I am an old man, and I cannot say that I understand every single word. It was only because you were here, providing me with a sense of security and peace, that I was able to make the decision to go to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss so quickly.
Even here in this Buddha-land, I occasionally recall the agony I suffered in the hells. I was simply too stubborn, too set in my ways, and I did not think things through clearly. That is why I ended up in such a state. It is quite embarrassing to admit, but I share this as a warning to everyone else—I hope you will not follow the path I once took.
A Message to Those Still Wandering
A-Cai, this Buddha-land is truly extraordinary. It is a wonderful place. You must continue to introduce it to others and help our old friends. Most people do not realise that this physical body is merely an illusion, yet they treat every single day as if it were the ultimate reality. Some are obsessed with money, others with romance, and many are simply unable to let go of their families. Everyone is unaware that they need to see through these attachments. They do not realise that it is possible to live without illness and without the fear of death, and they understand even less about who Namo Amituofo truly is.
If my spirit had not arrived here, I would have found it very difficult to believe as well. It was only after seeing how Practitioner Su helps so many spirits that I realised I was just one of many spirits wandering in the vast ocean of samsara. Today, I have finally reached the shore and returned home to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is a beautiful place that exists for eternity.
Everything I have said today may be difficult for people to understand all at once, but I hope that you, A-Cai, can act as my messenger. Please explain this to my family and my friends. I hope they can come to believe, that they can take refuge in the Buddha, and I hope that one day, we will all meet again in the Western Land. Tell them that I am doing very well now. Namo Amituofo."
