This is a record of an interview with Cao Shuxi, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his life and his recent transition to the Pure Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on February 19, 2026.
Cao Shuxi speaks:
". Today, thanks to the of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, I, your grandfather Cao Shuxi, have been guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is truly the most joyous event I have ever encountered! I am filled with such immense gratitude toward Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. At this very moment, I have been kneeling before the Buddha for quite some time. To be precise, it has been over an hour since I was guided up here from the human world, and I have been shedding tears of incessantly. All the suffering and pain I endured in the past have vanished into thin air. Now, I am filled with nothing but -joy and deep emotion, because I have truly become a resident of the West—a being who dwells alongside the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. When I was in the human world, I never even dared to dream of such a thing!"
A Granddaughter's Blessing
"My dear granddaughter, I am so grateful to you! You have encountered the Buddha, and that is wonderful—it is your tremendous blessing. Because of this opportunity, I, too, have been able to reconnect with the Buddha, which is truly moving. Please, make sure to share this good news with everyone. Proclaim it loudly! Tell everyone bravely and sincerely that your grandfather has finally found his true home. This is the Buddha-land established by Namo Amituofo of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is a Pure Land of such peace, serenity, and compassion. In the short time I have been here, I have experienced a level of purity and meditative concentration I have never known before. Even though the is already magnificent, the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is truly something else entirely! Everyone here is just like the Buddha; our hearts are filled with such joy. It is no exaggeration to call this place the Land of Ultimate Bliss!"
Reflections on and Impermanence
"During the time I first arrived in the Western Dharma-Nature Land, I would still look back on my past. I had not fully let go. It was during that period that I sat before Practitioner Su, listening to the sutras and hearing the Dharma. I learned so much about the work of saving beings in the human world, and it filled me with such Dharma-joy. It is a pity that I no longer have a physical body; otherwise, I would love to be at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. What a wonderful place for practice! I saw from the Western Dharma-Nature Land how fulfilling life there is, day after day. Seeing more and more people come to know the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre means that more and more people have the opportunity to be saved! In the past, I was always preoccupied with myself—my past, my suffering, the misery of the hells, and the bitterness of the human world. Only after walking this path do I realise how helpless and tragic life can be, and how we have so little control over our own fate. I know that my own character was flawed, which is why I ended up in such a state, and why my came knocking at my door. I fell ill, and then I passed away. This is the impermanence of life and the power of karma; no one can escape it."
A Grandfather's Final Advice
"So, my dear family, and especially you, Xiaoyan, if you have the chance to learn the Buddha’s teachings, you must grasp this magnificent opportunity firmly. If you miss it, it will not come again! My life spanned several decades, and it passed by just like that. Yours will be the same. Although you are still young and have much of your life’s journey ahead of you, take this opportunity to calm your heart, study the Buddha’s teachings diligently, and apply them in your daily life. Reduce the creation of karma, do more good deeds, and help others—these are things you can start doing right now. For every event and every person you encounter, look at them with kindness, think good thoughts, speak good words, and do good deeds. Practitioner Su says it is just that simple. If you do this, your body will naturally become healthy, and you will be able to practise well and make the most of your life. Without a healthy body, it is very difficult to practice! This is your grandfather’s advice: in short, just be a good person!"
"Well, I will not ramble on any longer. The Western Land is far too beautiful. I must continue my practice so that, in the future, I can return to the human world to help save others! I am so grateful to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su for their compassion! Namo Amituofo."
