This is a record of an interview with Zhang Zhenhua, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his transition from the spirit realm to the Pure Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on November 15, 2025.
Zhang Zhenhua speaks:
". I am Zhang Zhenhua. I am truly grateful for everything I have encountered. I have experienced the full spectrum of life—the impermanence of it all, the joys and the sorrows, the reunions and the painful partings. I have tasted the bitterness and the sweetness of existence, and now, all of that is behind me. The most important thing is that I am currently in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, a place that is beyond any comparison in the human world. It is magnificent, adorned with golden light, and the air is so fragrant that it clears my mind and brings a profound sense of peace to my heart. I never imagined that I could feel this way—so incredibly tranquil and genuinely happy. To think that someone with my personality could actually arrive here in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is truly a miracle."
The Power of Filial Piety and Chao Du
"To my children, Zhang Xianmei, Zhang Lian, and Zhang Ying: Father is so grateful to you for arranging the Chao Du for me. You must understand that Chao Du must be performed in the right place, by the right people. Otherwise, it is just a hollow ritual, and one might end up right back where they started. When a father passes away and becomes a wandering spirit—well, let me tell you, that is the fate of so many. But I am different. Because my children registered me for Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, my destiny changed.
After several assemblies, I was asked if I wished to go to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I did not hesitate for even a second; I said, 'Yes!' While I was alive, I had heard a little bit about it, and I knew that this was the absolute best place one could go after death. I could never have reached this place on my own strength; I would have been trapped in the ghost realm forever. But because of the merit my children created for me, I was able to enter. This is the true wonder of life's karmic connections."
From a Wandering Spirit to the Pure Land
"Although the cycle of rebirth is a painful and exhausting process, I do not feel a shred of that suffering now. Oh, the Great Compassionate Namo Amituofo! I, Zhang Zhenhua, never in my wildest dreams thought I would be chanting the holy name of 'Namo Amituofo.' My heart is overflowing with gratitude. This is the greatest grace that Namo Amituofo has bestowed upon us deceased spirits. I have now fully accepted my past identity as a spirit, and to be able to enter the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss while carrying that history—it is truly the most wonderful thing that could ever happen to me.
I have never been a man of many words, but I am speaking at length today because this opportunity is so rare. I want my family to know exactly how I am doing. I want you to be at ease and stop worrying about me. Please, put your hearts at rest—not just a hundred percent, but a thousand, a million percent! I am doing exceptionally well here, far better than those dark days I spent wandering in the ghost realm. Thank you, Namo Amituofo. Thank you, Practitioner Su. Thank you to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, and thank you to my dear children."
