In the Midst of the Suffering of the Saha World, Only Fragrant Light is a Ray of Hope

A disciple once asked: , to truly learn the Buddha's teachings, one must have absolute faith in the Buddha. Only through this faith can one truly change their personality, reveal their original heart, receive the benefits of the , and be filled with Dharma . May the Buddha compassionately provide us with guidance.
Namo Amituofo provided this discourse:
Life is often a journey of stumbling and falling. You endure bruises and scrapes, your skin is torn, and you bleed from the wounds of existence. Yet, you must always rise again after every fall. Eventually, there will come a day when you no longer stumble or collide with the obstacles of the world. When you are fully laden with faith in the Buddha, you will be able to move forward with courage and unwavering determination.
The benefits of learning the Buddha's teachings are found in one thing alone: faith in the Buddha. Yet, this faith is rare, and it is often difficult to truly believe.
On the path of learning the Buddha's teachings, you will see many realities. The world is filled with your . At any given moment, you are either repaying a debt or collecting one, repaying a kindness or settling a grievance. This is the nature of the human world in the cycle of rebirth.
How can there be true happiness here? Where is the genuine joy? These experiences are merely illusions, a fleeting interaction in the grand play of existence. The emotions you feel—love and hate, joy and anger, sorrow and happiness, separation and reunion—are all simply the manifestations of the laws of karma and cause and effect.
When you are reborn into another life, where will the protagonist be? You will be lost within the six realms of existence, unable to recognise one another. This is the truth of your situation, yet it is also a sign of deep ignorance. How many people truly believe this? How many people truly change their ways because of it?
Most of your struggles arise from your personality: the need to win or lose, the obsession with gain and loss, the insistence that you are right and others are wrong. These are all expressions of a competitive spirit. To overcome this, you must be humble and modest, always wearing a smile, and dedicating yourself to the service of all beings.
You know this is the right path, yet it is difficult to put into practice because of your deep-seated habits. The Buddha’s words are a constant reminder; you must cherish them with all your heart. Despite this, you often remain as you were before, taking one step forward and three steps back. You may practise diligently for a day, only to succumb to anger for three days. You may show signs of improvement, only to have your expression change and your heart fluctuate with the tides of emotion.
All of these experiences are signs of impermanence. How can there be lasting joy in such a state? Understand that these are all tests of your resolve. Nothing in this world remains unchanged. Even those who seem close to you have different hearts, and when the time comes, each will go their own way.
If you truly have faith in the Buddha, you should gather your focus and stop worrying about the faults of others. Manage yourself well. Remove the dirt and the grime from your heart. Layer by layer, as you purify yourself, your true nature will become clear and transparent.
To have faith in the Buddha means you must advance every single day. Practise with caution, never retreat, and let joy follow your heart. If you can maintain this faith in this lifetime, you will receive the greatest benefit of all: you will find your true self and understand everything clearly.
The voyage to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is a journey we take together. This is a rare and precious spiritual connection, one that is difficult for anyone to encounter. Where does your true heart reside? It is found when you face difficulties, break through obstacles, and pass through every trial.
When you have faith in the Buddha, you will naturally receive the Buddha's assistance. There is a synergy between your own efforts and the Buddha's power. One part is your own effort, and one part is the Buddha's power. Every portion of your effort and every portion of the Buddha's power should be dedicated to the benefit of all beings.
When you reach the state of and have no selfish intentions, that is your true heart. This is the truth, this is the true practice, and this is the non-action of your true nature. Within this state, there is nothing that is not right. The benefits of the Dharma are everywhere, and you will be filled with Dharma joy, which permeates the entire Buddha-land.
