What is the invisible thread that weaves our past lives together with our current existence, resulting in the various encounters we face today? It is the heart. It is that heart, which has existed from beginningless time and will continue to the endless future, never once extinguished. Imagine it as a string of invisible beads, threading together every person, every event, and every object we have encountered across time.
This is what forms the tapestry of our lives—the cycles of birth, aging, sickness, and death, the shifting tides of and anger, sorrow and happiness, and the inevitable meetings and partings. This is the heart of a worldly, unenlightened person.
How, then, should we place and settle this heart as we walk the path of purification? The answer is to live in the present moment. The past has already passed; do not allow it to stir your emotions again. Once you are stirred by these memories, if you lack the strength of meditative concentration and have not yet reached the state of an awakened being, you will find it difficult to regain your composure.
This is because your and spiritual attachments will manifest before you. You will then be forced to endure the suffering that arises from your own . In such a state of turmoil, how can one possibly focus on their practice?
If you can truly recognise the reality of the situation, you will understand that even if the past feels incredibly real and the memories remain vivid, they are ultimately like events in a dream—illusions within an illusion. You must truly 'see through' and 'let go' of these attachments within your heart. You can exist within this world without becoming obsessed or lost in it.
Only then, regardless of when or where you are, and regardless of the connections between your past and present lives, will you be able to lead a life of true autonomy, clarity, and freedom.
By following these steps, you will find that you are no longer a slave to your past. Instead, you will walk the path of the Right Way, guided by the Universal Principle and the Truth, moving ever closer to the of Ultimate Bliss.
